The contact owns a 2009 BMW 535i. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle vibrated violently with a message displayed to, "check engine – engine power reduced”. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the spark plugs and ignition coil. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the valve cover gasket and upper radiator hose. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, who diagnosed failures with the evaporative leak detection assembly, water pump, and high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 70,000.

2 Fuel Pump problem of the 2010 BMW 535

The contact owns a 2010 BMW 535i. The contact stated while driving approximately 20-25 mph, the vehicle loss motive power. The contact coasted and manually steered the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The contact stated that the fuel pump warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to rallye BMW (1 brush hollow rd, westbury, NY 11590, (516) 226-7947) who had replaced an unknown part however, approximately a week later the failure recurred with the same warning light illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer and the fuel pump was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

3 Fuel Pump problem of the 2009 BMW 535

2009 BMW 535i. Consumer writes in regards to engine malfunction that caused vehicle fire. The consumer stated the vehicle was in the process of being towed, when it caught on fire. The consumer stated there was no unusual service history. The high pressure fuel pump was replaced twice, once as a recall. The vehicle was serviced for stalling problems, which was the same issue that occurred on the day of the fire.

The vehicle suddenly shows an engine malfunction alert and then the power immediately slows down and then I had a minute to try and get off to the right on the freeway before the engine turned itself off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and was told that it was the high powered fuel pump. There are numerous other people on the internet with the same experience. I am seven months pregnant and am grateful that I was able to get to the right side of the freeway.

The contact had the fuel pump replaced but when he called the manufacturer to obtain additional information in regards to the letter, they would not provide it to him. The failure mileage was 9,900.

At around 3000 miles (2010 535xi), while attempting to accelerate onto highway engine power died - engine light came on, and car eventually stalled. Luckily was in right lane at time so managed to pull over. Tried to start car several times with no luck. Waited several minutes and car did start but continued having acceleration problems. Took it to dealer and had fuel pump replaced. Told it was a common problem.

Our 2010 BMW 535 xi experienced a failed fuel pump. The car is was purchased new 4 month prior to the failure. The car had a total ~3100 miles when the failure occurred. When the failure occurred, the car lost all power including the power steering which caused a very serious safety issue as the car was in motion with little ability to steer it to safety. The car was towed to the closest dealership where the fuel pump was replaced with a new unit.

Fuel pump on BMW 535i-2010 has failed twice in 60 days on low mileage car. Safety issue occurs because car immediately loses power with no warning. The first time it happened we were in a shopping center garage so we were going slowly. Second time it happened we were on the 101 heading east at high speed on an incline. Lost power and luckily were able to move over to the shoulder with no incident. We were informed by dealer that this has been a continuing problem with this model. They have replaced it twice. The service manager said they have redesigned the fuel pump and hopefully this time it will work. I googled similar problems and found that there were a number of people reporting the "safety" issue of losing power rapidly.

Recurrent sudden stalling of vehicle multiple times, leading to loss of steering control, on a brand new BMW 535 xdrive with 3000 miles. The problem was fixed by changing the high pressure fuel pump, by the BMW dealership. I am not sure if this is widespread problem with BMW vehicles with dual turbo engines.

My BMW 535xi sport wagon had a high pressure fuel pump replaced after 12500 mi. The engine lost most of its power and I needed to quickly exit hwy. In order not to pose a threat to others. Prior to this problem I noticed the engine took longer to start, and one time the engine seemed to sputter and temporarily become un drivable. The first time this happened, the dealer said they had to fix a problem in the cars computer. The second time , the dealer said the pump had to be replaced.

Purchased 2009 BMW 335ci in March of 2009. In Sep the car stalled, BMW replaced the fuel pump or hpfp (high pressure fuel pump). Today we started the car and moved it in our driveway. 1. 5 hours later we started the car again to go to work and it stalled. We tried twice to restart it wouldn't. At that time we noticed a fuel smell and stepped out of the vehicle into a puddle of gasoline.

My family and I was driving to san francisco and ready to cross the bay bridge. I was in my 2010 BMW 535i (the car was three months old with about 5500 miles on it. With no warning, the engine malfunction light goes on and I get a message to slow the car down. In about 2 minutes, the engine dies and the car is stalled. I was in the middle of heavy traffic, very dangerous, no where to exit. I tried to start the engine and everytime I tried to drive, the engine dies. We were blocking traffic for about 30 minutes before the chp arrived to move the car out of the traffic lanes. I was told the problem was the high pressure fuel pump system (hpfp) - BMW knows about this problem and they still have not fixed this issue. It is very dangerous -- there is no telling when this fuel pump will fail again.
