The passenger air bag signal flashes on and off even when someone is seating on the passenger seat.
I got a notice from the car that the restraint system was malfunctioning. It said to go ahead and wear my seatbelt and go to the nearest repair shop. This is distressing and should not have happened. I’m afraid to drive it. I have no other means of transportation. My life was destroyed by a near fatal car accident in 1994 as I was enrolling in medical school. An 18-wheeler pulled out on narrow 2-lane hwy with no shoulder. It ran through a very dense pine forest in east texas. The trailer had only a bicycle sized reflector, and it was caked with mud. He was invisible. I couldn’t see him until my headlights shone upon the trailer. What is that? a distance of 50-60 feet, at most? brights weren’t on. It was drizzling and little wisps of road mist were floating above the road here and there. I slammed as hard as I could apparently. As I swerved into the oncoming lane, the driver behind me watched in horror as my headlights swept across the entire length of the trailer. There was nowhere to go. I slid under the trailer and hit the axle going 45 mph. No time to stop. The driver directly behind me was an off duty police officer. He got out and ran over to the truck to tell the driver to stop. He didn’t know he’d caused an accident. The off duty policeman checked my car to see if there were any survivors. He peered into the dark through my window and found me alive and conscious. The seatbelt was still wrapped around me but the force of impact caused it to pop out of its socket. My head snapped forward on impact. It hit the airbag with such force, it ruptured fully on one side. I have a brain injury, was in a light coma for over four years. My life was so thoroughly destroyed, I had not one thing left but my 2 dogs and a bible. My house, car, job, the ability to live independently, my future, and my personality—the person I was for the first 24 years of my life—all gone. Family abandoned me. I couldn’t function. Seatbelts must do their job. And truck drivers can go to hell.
Driver seatbelt fails to engage with latch. Latch does not positively lock when inserted. Safety risk is obvious and has rendered the car undrivable. This just happened and has not been inspected by dealer. I personally looked at it and compared with other belt points. To me, it looks like the small metal clip failed.

87,000 miles warning light passenger air bag not engaged and may cause damage. Quoted $1800 BMW certified mechanic to replace, fix. Looking for recall as many others experienced the same. Was told that you can't tell whether the airbag will inflate or not. Against the law to disconnect the light. Unable to diagnose without taking the seat apart.

The north american BMW had recalled the 2004-2006 Bmws with the faulty passenger seat occupancy mat, as they had a recurring problem of failing. BMW stated that they "improved the quality of materials, and fixed the problem", but it seems that other BMW owners still have the same problem including myself. My BMW about 4 months ago had the passenger seat occupancy warning light come on, and I am very disappointed that they "fixed" the issue, but most likely instead of actually taking the time to improve their product, they probably just slapped a new label on it and called it a day. And what even more annoying is the cost of replacement parts, which alone cost upwards of $900. You would think that for $900 the past wouldn't have a propensity to break. The newer models that still have this problem should be covered under recall or at least have a reduced price to compensate for the poor craftsmanship of a product known to fail.
The passenger restraint malfunction warning keeps popping up. I've spent close to a thousand dollars at BMW dealerships to have the issue fixed. They have inspected and replaced a few sensors and the issue still persists.
The passenger seat occupancy mat failure light indicator is on. Brought back to the BMW dealer, service technician stated that it is a recurring problem for BMW. But service would cost $2,300 to fix. I asked if it is a recurring problem, then it is a defect. BMW should fix the problem free of charge as I see in other recent recall announcements like last month for the BMW x3.
The contact owns a 2010 BMW 535i. While driving at an unknown speed, the front passenger seat belt and air bag sensor lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical cable loosened. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was repaired on two separate occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 67,000.
2008 BMW 5-series vehicles have the same issue as recalled 2004 - 2006 BMW 5-series vehicles in regards to the front passenger seat occupant detection mat malfunctioning. The seat occupancy mat is faulty on 2007 & 2008 models as well. The consequence is that the passenger air bag will not deploy even in the event of a severe crash. Why were 2007 & 2008 Bmws not recalled already. . . ?!?!? what is being done to recall 2007 & 2008 BMW models that use the same parts as 2004 - 2006 models. . . ?!?!?.
My 2008 BMW 535i is suffering from the same passenger restraint system malfunction error as the earlier BMW models. Nhtsa information I've read indicates that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a substantial front end collision, which poses a significant risk to passengers. BMW only recalled model years 2004 - 2006, however. This is not an isolated incident to those years. My 2008 BMW 535i throws the error every time I drive with or without a passenger. Both the passenger side seat belt light and the passenger side airbag light remain illuminated any time the key is in the ignition. What is being done about more recent BMW models?.
The contact owns a 2008 BMW 535i. The contact stated that the navigational system advised that the front passenger restraint and air bag was malfunctioning. The dealership advised that the VIN was not included in the manufacturer's air bag improvement campaign. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was manufacturer 88, 8000.
While driving under speed limit of 50mph on expressway, had to slam brakes to prevent hitting a red light runner. My 12year old son was in the rear left passenger seat, with seat belt on, was thrown forward but used his hands to cushion the impact. Luckily he suffered no injuries except for the scare. On checking the seat belt ,it was found to be have a defective latch. Took it to BMW fremont for inspection, they too found the seat belt latch defective and ordered a new one. The car is used mostly for work commute hence the low mileage of 21250 for a nearly six year old car and rarely has any rear passengers, therefore the seat belt defect must have been there on production. We are very lucky to find the defective seat belt in a minor incident, if it was a major accident my child or any anyone in that seat could have been seriously injured or worse. Reported the incident to BMW customer relations officer, so far only sympathies were offered.
The contact owns a 2008 BMW 535i. The contact stated that when the front passenger side seat was occupied, the passenger restraint malfunction warning light illuminated. In addition, the passenger seat belt light failed to disengage when an occupant was properly secured with a seat belt. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
I got a passenger restraint system malfunction: fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter restraint problem. This resulted in a red airbag light and red passenger belt to come on the dash and idrive. The passenger restraint system and belt tensioner is said to be bad . This time with a red airbag light on all the time, and the seat belt unbuckled light on as well.

Takata inflators- shows on my screen that there is a problem with my restraint safety system.
Seems to be a common problem where light keeps coming in. . . Not sure if airbag or seat belt restraints will help in an accident.
