4 Suspension problem of the 2012 BMW 535

Failure Date: 03/23/2021

3/23/2021 driving on I-94 in morning rush hour when engine killed. Was able to roll over to the median between an on-ramp and the highway before car stopped moving. Charge battery light on on the dash as well as check stabilization warning. Would not turn over at all but dash lights/wipers were on (raining). Towed to mechanic I've taken vehicles to for past 4-5 cars/trucks. It was found that the #2 piston ring came off and jammed between the cylinder wall and piston causing the engine to seize/need to be replaced. Once it was replaced and while doing a test drive, the mechanic felt a vibration and they found that there was movement on the passenger side axle so they replaced that as well. The car had 116. 5k on it when I purchased about 2 weeks prior to the engine and cv assembly needing to be replaced. Just got car back yesterday, just over a month and a half to repair.

5 Suspension problem of the 2010 BMW 535

Failure Date: 06/25/2020

I had the car serviced by a mechanic because I had check engine light faults. Water pump and thermostat was replaced. Spark plugs and cops were replaced. Some of the fuel injectors were also replaced. Mechanic asked me to drive the car for 100 miles to see if any check engine issues will reappear. The vehicle first began stating it had low oil pressure and would not allow me to check the oil level, it would continue to just stop at 15%. I then restarted the vehicle and the indicator went away for the low oil pressure. I drove about 10 more miles and drive train malfunction appeared and I pulled over immediately. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic. Engine was seized. What was found in the engine was "shards of metal". Many people had the same issue with the 5 series BMW engines. I think that BMW is responsible for these engine failures.

6 Suspension problem of the 2015 BMW 535

Failure Date: 04/03/2020

Recently, I noticed my left-rear suspension has been faulty and this issue seems to be happening to a lot of other people. The tire would go all the way into the body of the car and which makes it impossible to drive since it's rubbing against the car. This only happens when the vehicle is parked, from what I've noticed. I'm afraid that it will happen while I am on the highway which in return can cause accident.

8 Suspension problem of the 2009 BMW 535

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

BMW 2009 535 xi owner. Out of all of the times taking the car for service for various reasons, I decided to look for information regarding my latest issue. Twin turbo. I was told the rear turbo was bad and it is recommended to do both. I had the car serviced in October, they told me the oil smell was due to the spring from oil cap missing. Before oct 2019 I complained about the oil smell and was told it was a leak from a hose (I never saw any fluids on ground) this last incident, I was on the road when I exited the highway I got an engine warning to shut off the engine immediately. Oil was low. I took it back to BMW and I was told the rear turbo was bad. They now want $6,900. I read in a few posts that the twin turbo issue was ext. To 10 years or 120,000 miles. My car was first purchase in may 2009. I am assuming I am out of time. I was never notified of a recall. My VIN number does not come up with any recalls, even though most of the issues are the same as other 2009 BMW owners. My car does not have 120,000 miles yet. I took the car to BMW for vanos solenoids in oct 2019. And another time in oct because the car over heated suddenly in less than half a mile. It was the fan. Recently I learned that some of the 2009 BMW 535 had a recall but I never received anything. I questioned the dealer but he said he had nothing on file. Further reading I found out that the company I believed called vanos was doing the recalls. In October 2019 I spent about $3,000 in repairs. I now believe I could have been covered by a recall or ext. Warranty. Overall on different issues I think I have spent over $13,000 in repairs (including transfer case and differential that the warranty did not pay because the car did not have specified 17 tires: but I bought with staggered 18 tires). I still owe approximately $7,500 to the bank. I take it to be serviced all the time, so I'm baffled.

9 Suspension problem of the 2015 BMW 535

Failure Date: 10/10/2019

Right rear differential bushing stress cracking. Dealer rep stated that this is common on BMW 5, 6 and 7 series cars due to weight of cars. Failure could make car unstable and affect handling and control. Noted by dealer during servicing.

10 Suspension problem of the 2013 BMW 535

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

The contact owns a 2013 BMW 535xi. While driving approximately 45 mph, a clicking noise was present coming from the front of the vehicle. After parking the vehicle, it was discovered that oil was leaking underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the universal joint failed and punctured the oil pan. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000. Updated 10/02/jb.

11 Suspension problem of the 2013 BMW 535

Failure Date: 04/30/2018

Air suspension. Car leaned left after sitting, but the air spring pumped up on vehicle start-up. Car was taken to the dealer, who identified a leaking left rear air suspension spring. Identified technical bulletin (si b37 01 15) noting faulty installation during assembly. The bulleting recommends replacing left air spring (BMW to supply labor and parts) on cars manufactured through Feb 2, 2013. My car was manufactured Feb 17, 2013 and the BMW customer relations department refuses to cover the cost of replacement since it is outside the bulletin dates. Car has 40,500 miles and the failure was exactly as described in the technical bulletin. Hence, this is evidence that the vehicle defect exceeds the assembly dates and the date of manufacture should be extended. Further, the air spring was defective, but a warning light was not activated because the air bag was inflated during the vehicle start up process. This may have led to a catastrophic failure of a defective air shock while the car was in motion, and is therefore a safety hazard.

12 Suspension problem of the 2012 BMW 535

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

The car will not go straight. It keeps pulling to the right side, my 2012 535i has been aligned twice by BMW and can't correct the problem. My service advisor advised me that I needed to contact BMW of north America and address the issue to them.
