BMW 550 owners have reported 4 problems related to front air bag sensor control (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Car has faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor matt. Recall for this issue was done in 2014 - the recall called for inspection and possible replacement. In the instance of my car the matt was inspected and not-replaced. The matt now appears to be faulting as the passenger airbag off light (for children etc. ) is on even with full grown adults sitting in the seat. Seems to be that the airbag will not go off even when it should. BMW issues numerous warranty extensions for the 04-10 e60 5 series and seems to be a widely reported issue. In the instance of my VIN the recall was conducted (but the matt not replaced) and the problem the recall aimed to correct for is occurring. I would suggest another recall or an extension of warranty for all vehicles that had this recall done as not every car had the faulty part replaced.

Sensor and control module flaw.
There is a recall involving the front passenger seat sensor mat, which cause the airbag not to work in some models. Nhtsa campaign id number:
08v384000
however, since my vehicle's prod. Date was 01/2006 it is not covered. There is many vehicles up to 2007 I've heard, with the same issue. It would be fair to revisit the recall and do the needed changes in order to cover these vehicles. It is not safe to drive around with a front airbag not working. And unfair that because of three months difference in the production dates, someone has to pay anywhere around $1800 out of pocket for the same issue that other owners are getting fixed free of charge.
