BMW 550 owners have reported 6 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The brake pedal became incredibly hard to press down to get the vehicle to stop while it was in motion on a street. The car dealer repair told me the vacuum pump had failed, which caused the issue.

Pulled a NHTSA report on this vehicle and saw nothing dangereous about this vehicle until we got it inspected. We took the vehicle to athens BMW in athens, georgia and the service advisor told us that they do not know how the vehicle made it to their shop. There were over 30 bolts and screws missing from the engine and in their words, "the engine was raising up like a heart beating out of its chest. " we got a 2nd opinion from, euro auto pro in lilburn, georgia and they confirmed the vehicle needed valve seals and the vehicle had been wrecked in the front. Neither was disclosed to us from the NHTSA nor the dealership where we purchased the vehicle. We were told by athens BMW that this vehicle should have never been sold to the general public in that condition. The vehicle is sitting in our driveway. We just purchased it on December 13, 2018. The owner of the dealership is refusing to take the vehicle back.

My 2011 BMW 550i has thrice had this weird response in the past 6 months. After driving for 30m-1h suddenly got multiple different warning lights before I lost control of steering (stiff like a dead body) and brakes following which the car stalled. It was towed to the dealership who said this was a bad battery which did not make sense but the car was running thereafter so I took it home. The second time the dealership was closed - I was able to start the car a few minutes later and took the risk of driving home. The dealership said since the car was running they could not run any diagnosis. Thereafter the car ran fine for 3 weeks and then it happened again. This time I could restart it but the car would only move a few feet before stalling. After towing it to the dealer they tell me that the battery and alternator both are bad. I can understand that but there should never be a total loss of control on steering and brakes. That to me is a safety issue and BMW needs to fix it but the dealership does not seem to know what to do. They just want to fix the battery and alternator and call it "problem resolved" without digging further. I have not seen any recalls either. I am now afraid to drive the car because it could get me killed.

This complaint is concerning my 2011 BMW 550i. I have been having problems with my BMW since about 7000 miles on the vehicle. The brakes keep locking, the rotors keep grinding and grooving, nose coming from the brakes while driving and stopping, and the dealer has changed them more than 4 times and the issues continues to happen. They advised me that they cannot fix it and there is nothing else they can do. Please help me with my vehicle issue. It has been parked from more than a year and a half and I feel that it is a safety issue. I feel like my life is in danger if I drive this vehicle.
