1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 10/14/2025

My vehicle had a faulty pcv valve that was under "stop drive," order. I received no correspondence from the NHTSA nor from BMW of north America in regards to this. My BMW x-5 had significant issues that are directly associated with this issue. After contacting BMW of north America directly because I could not reach anyone at my nearest BMW service department, it was escalated twice to attempt to arrange for my vehicle that I unknowingly continued to drive. My vehicle has sat undriven since may of 2024. It was finally picked up, towed to the dealership for repairs related to the pcv recall. The pcv valve was replaced and my vehicle was returned to me in undriveable condition. None of the rough idle, burning smell or engine issues were attended to. They simply replaced the valve without further investigation into the damage done by continued driving of a "stop drive," order. BMW of north America is placing blame solely on the NHTSA for not sending me correspondence relative to this recall. My vehicle was identified as having the faulty takata airbags and I received all of the documents sent by both the NHTSA and BMW USA. I now have a undriveable, unsafe vehicle due to the servicer simply replacing a recalled object but not the damage caused by continuing to drive a vehicle that should have had immediate service. Please advise what steps should be taken. Tara catalano-smith.

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 BMW 5 Series. The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle did not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence, where it was diagnosed by an independent mechanic that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v746000 (fuel system, gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 48,000. Sg.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 10/13/2016

Nhtsa recall campaign 16v-746 was issued 13 oct 2016. To date BMW has yet to to notify us to schedule the repair of the defect - nearly 6 months after the recall was issued. We believe this an unacceptably long wait for which we have not seen any action from NHTSA or other federal authorities to compel BMW to accelerate compliance with the recall order. Are we going to have to wait for people to die in a fiery made for tv news accident before this is taken seriously??? fix my car!!.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

All 6 fuel injectors failed. Car lost power while driving on 3 separate occasions.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Gasoline is leaking from the fuel level sensor, which is accessed beneath the left rear passenger seat, due to a crack in the plastic housing. My independent mechanic who specializes in BMW repair, tells me this is a common problem with BMW and mercedes vehicles.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

The vehicle stalled while I was driving on the freeway. The stall is related to the camshaft sensor not properly working and the fuel system not working properly. I have a 2009 BMW 528i. In April 2014 BMW did a recall related to the camshaft for 2010 - 2014 528 BMW's. I contacted my local dealer and the national BMW dealer to let them know I was having the same problem with my 2009 and to see if they were going to expand the recall to include the 2009 models. They told me no at this time they didn't have any information regarding expanding the recall. I also let them know that I had another problem with the car that could be related to the camshaft. The car's fuel system was leaking. The gas was not properly going to the engine and it was flowing back into the car and the exhaust. You could smell gas in the car and see puddles of gas when they lifted the back seat of the car. The mechanic told me I was driving a bomb. I paid $450 to have that repaired. BMW needs to expand the recall to include the 2009 cars.
