Tire Problems of BMW 5 Series

BMW 5 Series owners have reported 9 problems related to tire (under the tire category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire problem of the 2011 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

I have a 2011 BMW x5 with the bridgestone dueler h/l 400 255/50r19 107 h. The tires are 8 months old and has driven almost 14000 km. Today one of my tires cracked on a side while I was driving the car at the intersection. I almost got into car accident because of it. When I got home I've checked all my tires and found out that another tire has a bump on a side that will soon crack or blew-out on me. I don't think that it's normal that 2 out of 4 tires are damaged after only 14000 km.

4 Tire problem of the 2008 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 03/17/2009

I had purchased a new BMW with dunlop tires on. My tires are used less than 1 year and used only for 34,000 km (21,200 miles) but there are no threads left on the tires. I have contacted dunlops customer service in America and contacted their office in turkey and they have sent an expert to check the tires. They claim that the air pressure was low so the tires were worn quickly. That is ridiculous because my car is new and it was checked by authorized BMW service for routine checks several times and I have a report from authorized BMW service that tire pressure was normal. On the other hand this car has tire pressure sensors and there were never low pressure warning. I have made a research on the web and found out that dunlop tires had so many customer complaints similar to mine and high court judge found dunlop guilty for 300 incidents involving a faulty brand of tire, which caused at least one fatal motorway smash. On the other hand a biker died due to faulty dunlop tire and another injured seriously. (the suit (cause no. Dv-08- 480) was filed Nov. 10, 2008, in the second judicial district court, butte silver-bow county. ). Do I have to go to a court or get killed to have my tires replaced? a copy of the above was sent to (federal trade commission bureau of consumer protection).

5 Tire problem of the 2006 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 06/21/2008

The contact owns a 2006 BMW 5 Series. The vehicle has bridgestone potenza tires. While driving 30 mph, the front passenger side tire was flattened by a screw in the road and also a pothole. The tire is a run flat tire, which means the vehicle can be driven for at least fifty more miles after a flat without any damage to the wheel. Once the contact arrived home, the wheel split. The contact stated that the wheel should not have split and cracked. The dealer repaired the tire, the wheel, and the front passenger side strut. The tire depth and size were unknown. The tire and vehicle failure mileages were 25,596.

6 Tire problem of the 2006 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 11/16/2007

I own a 2006 BMW 530i with 37,000 miles on original set of bridgestone rft tires 275/40 r1893y. These are low profile tires and on Nov 16, 07 < brought my car in for a tire check at the dealer. They determined that the rt rear wheel was cracked and has damaged the tire. This they said was not covered under warranty as they say that it was damaged from a pot hole. I said that I have been driving cars like Cadillac, mercedes, corvette and never broke a wheel. They would not cover it and it cost me $900. Now on April 11, 2008, I went to my tire dealer that I have been buying tires from for 20+ years. He said the left rear and front wheels were cracked and also ruined the left rear tire. I am very unhappy and would like to know if the BMW 18" wheels on the above mentioned tires are defective.

8 Tire problem of the 2004 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 06/27/2005

Today I realized for the first time that both my rear tires were worn beyond the tread on the inside of each tire. I could see the threads! I just came back from a long trip with my family and am thanksful that our tire(s) did not blow out on the freeway. I took it to the dealship today (irvine BMW) and this particular service manager stated that this is about the 6th, BMW 530i that he has seen this on. He pointed to the rear wheel from the back section, where you can visibly see that both rear tires are not even. They both tilt inwards, causing the excess wear on the inside of the tire. The outside of the tires are almost as good as new. He sted that this would be warrantied and replaced. I shall see tomorrow when I take the car in. Nevertheless, this problem can have some serious consequences. I also noticed that my front tires were wearing excessively on the inside, but not nearly as bad as the rear. I have 16,000 on my car.

9 Tire problem of the 2004 BMW 5 Series

Failure Date: 06/27/2005

I have dunlop sp sport tires (run flat) on my 2004 BMW 530i with 16,000 miles. The inside tread is worn beyond the tread to the point where tire threads are clearly visible throughout the inside of the tire, while the outside is almost good as new. The rear tires are completely exhausted while the front tires clearly show excess and uneven wear on the inside. The service manager states that dunlop has been replacing these tires and has not had a single refusal yet. How many thousands of defects are out there, and must a family be killed before a recall happens? the service manager stated that with another client he could poke his fingers through the tire, and that car had 6000 miles on it! I had filed a previous compiant on my 2004 BMW 530i regarding this same issue. Today the service manager states that he has seen this at least 25 times, and that the issue is with the dunlop tires I have, nad not the car. I hope someone investigates this issue. Please email me with any questions mavramidis@cox. Net. I would be happy to share photos.
