Tl-the contact owns a 2006 BMW 650i. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph during cold weather, the engine electronic control unit (ecu) was affected by an electrostatic discharge that occurred at the fuel rails causing the engine to stalled. As a result, the vehicle decelerated and the power steering failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the thermostat and hoses needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and advised the contact that the VIN was not included in recall NHTSA campaign number: 07v479000(engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired.
