Air Bag Light On problems of the 2004 BMW 745

Two problems related to air bag light on have been reported for the 2004 BMW 745. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 BMW 745i. The VIN was not provided. The contact stated that while driving at about 35 mph, he heard an unusual loud noise and momentarily, the front end of the vehicle exploded into flames. There was no warning indicator. The contact's clothes cut on fire. The failure occurred in front of a fire station, so as the contact ran out of the vehicle, he was rescued by the fire station attendants who also extinguished the fire. The vehicle was completely destroyed and was towed to a tow yard. Both fire and police reports were filed. The contact sustained minor injuries but did not require a medical attention. When notified of the incident, the manufacturer said the explosion could have been from the air bags, but stated that BMW did not use takata air bags. The failure mileage was 150,000. Fe.

2 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The contact owns a 2004 BMW 745li. While driving approximately 40 mph, the front passenger side air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front passenger seat sensor was replaced. The failure occurred again a few months later. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that a software upgrade was needed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000 and the current mileage was approximately 68,000.
