Last month, my 2016 BMW 750i xdrive displayed a warning message on the dashboard: “extended action required. Active protection restricted. You can continue driving. Roadside assistance not required. Pre-tensioning of seatbelts not possible. If the problem recurs, have it checked by your service center. ” when I took the vehicle to my local dealership, BMW of gwinnett place, the service advisor mentioned he had never seen this warning before. After diagnosing the vehicle, he informed me that the warning was related to the passenger seatbelt. He quoted me $1934. 93 for parts and labor to replace the seatbelt. When I inquired about any recalls for this issue, he said there were none and that I would have to pay out of pocket. I expressed my concern that this is a major safety issue and that my family’s lives are in danger if they are sitting in the passenger seat. He reiterated that there was nothing more he could do. I contacted BMW to report the issue and seek a remedy. The representative stated that since my vehicle is out of warranty, the responsibility is mine. I strongly believe BMW should issue a recall for this issue and take full responsibility to resolve and fix the seatbelt problem on this vehicle. This is a significant safety concern, and consumers’ lives are at great risk due to this seatbelt problem on my 2016 BMW 750i.
The contact owns a 2016 BMW 750i. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "active protection restricted" was displayed. Additionally, a message advising to drive the vehicle slowly and carefully was displayed. there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the passenger's side front seat belt was faulty. The dealer recommended the seat belt replacement. The dealer informed the contact that the repair was not covered under a recall or warranty coverage, and the dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Fault 97e0 - front passenger oc3 occupancy detection mat defective. This is the second such failure in this vehicle. The first occurred the year prior in the driver-side mat when the vehicle had less than 75,000 miles. At a normal mileage usage of 15,000 per year, the first failure would have occurred after 5 years of service. The passenger seat is used less than 20% of the driver's seat. On a pro-rata basis, the passenger seat mat failed in less than 2 years of equivalent use. We have not had the repair done for 2 reasons: 1) the repair ranges in cost between $1,700 - $2,700 as compared to the driver's seat repair that cost $700, and 2) the repair requires the replacement of the entire passenger seat cover (the driver's side doesn't), which disfigures the interior upholstery aesthetics. This failure occurs in almost every BMW model in years both prior and after 2008, with several years gaining recall status. This is understandable since the mat manufacturer most likely provided seat mats to all of BMW's vehicle lineup. The mat failure was a manufacturer's defect from the outset and should be covered by BMW.
A seat occupancy detector fault prevents the entire airbag system from working. This fault signal appears when the car is started and continues until it is off. The airbag fault signal was checked and confirmed to be a failure of the passenger seat detector. This is a common BMW problem. It caused NHTSA recall 13v564000 (11/12/13) and is now the subject of an extensive BMW warranty extension for many models in lieu of a recall, but not for the 2007 7 series. BMW service bulletin si b01 01 18 (may 2018) identifies 12 model types given a lifetime warranty extension for specified years: e53 (x5) for 2001-2006; e60 (5 series) 2004-2008; e61 (5 series wagon) 2006-2007; e63 (6 series) 2004-2008); e64 (6 series convertible) 2004-2008; e65-e66 (7 series) 2002-2006; e83 (x3) 2004-2010; e85 (z4) 2003-2007; e86 (z4 coupe) 2006-2008; e90 (3 series sedan) 2006-2007; and e91 (3 series touring) 2006-2007. For no apparent reason, the 2007 7 series is excluded from this warranty extension. A specialty BMW repair shop that uses BMW trained personnel confirmed that there was no material difference in the seat detection system between models included in the BMW warranty extension and those excluded from it, like the 2007 7 series. The Bmws have a design shortcoming that requires that a repair of a failed passenger seat occupancy detector is extremely expensive, requiring extensive work to rework the entire passenger seat. That expense in the range of $2,000, is a great disincentive to repairing older models with diminished value. That creates additional danger of no air bag protection in these cars. When asked, BMW representatives made no attempt to explain why the 2007 7 series is excluded from the warranty extension, saying only that the choice of models covered is based on internal data and BMW customer service has no discretion to cover or reduce costs for models not included.
Driver seat belt restaint malfunction warning. This warning came up suddenly. Took to the dealer, they suggested replacing the air bags. Not covered by warranty, looked around a lot of cars have the saem issue, fixed by readjusting the wiring harness, dealer had many issues with recharigng system and replaced many parts uncessay so I am sure the issue is not related to airbags.

Takata recall. I was involved in a traffic accident which 100% of fault was assumed by the hitters insurance firm. The other driver ran through a redlight, at intersection of legacy and hedgcoxe in in plano, TX round 6:40 pm. The airbag did not deploy properly to protect me. The airbag attempted to deploy mere inches and exploded in my face causing hot air and metal to be released and blown into my face an eyes, the fireman on scene helped me out of car and stated that airbag and seat belt did not protect you because your injury is apparent. Subsequently following surgery, my left forearm was repaired with pernmant screws and plate holding my bones together. I suffered neck, back bilateral knees, and two fractures in my ankle. My left hand has extensive painful numbness and shooting pains one year after surgery. I am still grappling with limitations and disabilities to this day. I am a totally different man today after this accident and my doctors concur, this is a medical condition that is of chronic duration. I have all of my documentation including police report, hospital bills pictures of both cars, insurance documents.

The sensor mats in the car have failed at under65k. The models 2005-2007 had a recall on these mats but it doesn't pertain to the 2008 model in which I am experiencing the exact same problem. Additionally, under 65k miles I have had to replace both forward window motors and now the back right motor. The logic 7 sound amp also went bad in 2012.

My name is jeremy taylor. I was turning off of frontage rd onto northside dr slowly and my left front tire fell right into a huge pothote which blew my tire completely out. This is my 3rd time having to get a brand new tire due to the streets of jackson,ms. The 1st two times I was upset but, as usual, did not be a baby about it but went on to get my car fixed on my own. This time, I am extremely upset, and am very tired of spending money on my car when the only damage comes from this city. Also, my car made a small squeaking noise afterwards and a seatbelt warning is on in my dashboard. Parts for my car are very expensive. The tire alone is enough. I was not speeding or driving wreckless and I cannot continue to pay for the damages caused from the streets. If someone could please contact me and talk to me, or if I could prrsonally talk to someone, I would glady appreciate it. Thank you.
I started my car in the morning and there was a yellow "air-bag" indicator on my dashboard with a message "driver restraint system fault". It wasn't there the night before. Couple of days later, I took the car to dealer and they diagnosed that "driver seat mat sensor and control box" failed and needed to be replaced for $1,237. BMW had a recall on seat mat sensor on prior year models and now its occurring in other year models as well.
While driving with my wife, I received an on-board light and symbol indicator. Stating that the passenger side airbag and restraint system failure. This is the very same sensor the (oc3 pass side matt) that was recalled in 2006 and 2007 models that had the oc3 sensor.
At home cranked car to leave and airbag and seat belt warning lights came on. Called dealership and was told it is the front seat occupant protection mat, but no recall for this model. They are well aware of this problem. Afraid to drive a car that cost so much and BMW wont stand behind their product is ridiculous.
Warning message appears for driver restraint system failure for driver seat tensioner. Identical to passenger seat restraint warning that was recalled only difference is that it is for the drivers side.
Airbag warning (restraint system failure) always shows up when car is started and in operation.
Front passenger seat occupancy sensor mat is faulty and is affecting srs system.
I started my car and have a red warning in my screen said fault in passenger restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner or belt-force limiter. Fasten and continue to wear belts. Please contact the nearest BMW center.
On date in question my girlfriend sat down on the passenger seat and a red light appeared on my dash board. I took my veh to the dealer and was told it wasn't a warrantee issue and it would cost me approx $1500. 00 also I was told my airbags would not work. I decided not to fix the problem. Several months later I received a recall notice for this same issue. I immediately call the dealer and informed them that I received a recall for this issue and I was told that I have to wait for another letter. I'm concerned about my safety, why is it taking so long for this letter from BMW of north America.
