2 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 BMW M3

Failure Date: 01/06/2018

Yesterday (01/06/17) - while driving in motion, 2 side airbags spontaneously exploded, throwing loose plastic material into the cabin and into my face. Cabin filled with smoke and burning smell. I pulled the car to the side of the road and turned off engine for smoke to disappear. I am going to take my car to BMW dealer tomorrow morning for evaluation.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2012 BMW M3

Failure Date: 03/29/2016

Takata recall is taking too long to replace my drivers side airbag in my 2012 BMW M3 convertible. I called rusnak BMW in westlake village, CA in November 2016 for a status update as to why they still have not contacted me to replace my driver's side takata airbag despite a recall notice in March of 2016. They indicated they have not gotten to my model year and that replacement takata airbags are not coming as quickly as they should.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 03/24/2016

Takata recall hello madam/ sir, I received a safety recall notice - 16v-071 regarding faulty drivers side airbags in my 2009 BMW M3. The notice (attached) clearly states that in an event of airbag getting deployed, the airbag might explode causing serious injury or death. BMW says that they don't have any information of when new parts will be available. To avoid any potential issue of something happening, I have been renting a car for a while. I have also contacted BMW and have been unsuccessful so far to receive any help. BMW told me that BMW dealership of ann arbor will contact me for alternate transportation and then BMW of ann arbor told me that they are not supporting this recall. I have just been going back and forth with BMW and the dealership without any assistance. How am I supposed to drive a vehicle when the recall clearly states that explosion of airbag might even cause death? I can't just afford to continue renting a car. Any help from NHTSA would be greatly appreciated. I am happy to provide more information. Kind regards, abhinav jain.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

Takata recall - I received notice of my driver side airbag at the beginning of this year but the BMW still does not have the part. This car is my daily driver and I do not have the luxury to have a second car. I am driving a car that is putting my life at risk. BMW states they do not have enough, yet they have plenty to sell millions of new cars. I find this absolutely ridiculous! my wife's Toyota was also recalled and it took a few months to get replaced, but not BMW. I would like to suggest a change to recalls where manufactures would have to stop or reduce the production numbers of new cars for until all recalls have been satisfied for extremely dangerous recalls. Maybe then we can have manufactures take the issue seriously.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 BMW M3

Takada recall: notified by BMW July 2015 driver-side air bag module defective. In may 2016, BMW advised they did not know when air bag would befixed. Since then another person has died. Concerned about safety and length of time waiting for fix.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 BMW M3

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Takata recall I received a letter from BMW of north America in July 2015 about a drive-side airbag recall for my 2006 BMW M3. (the passenger-side airbag had already been replaced under recall. ) we are now 9 months since I received that notice and I have had no further communication from BMW. When I call my local dealer they can only say that BMW is telling them parts will be available "sometime this year". When I ask what I can do in the meantime (not drive the car? what?) I am told to not worry too much because there has not yet been an incident in a BMW. I know that a lot of airbags have to be replaced but 9+ months seems like a ludicrously long period of time to have to drive around in a potentially dangerous vehicle.

8 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 BMW M3

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

BMW sent me a recall notice to replace the takata passenger side air bag. I contacted my dealer in late October. The dealer has not responded and BMW USA says it does not kinow when parts may be available. The car was purchased in miami, FL new from a BMW dealer and was located in the florida keys for approximately 3 years. I now live on the water in northern California where the humidity is typically 99% overnight and my deck does not dry all day due to high humidity. Summertime temperatures are in the upper 80s to low 90s with several days each summer above 100 f. While I understand parts shortages, I am also unable to drive with a passenger in my car in what I believe is a safe manner. If a manufacturer cannot fix as recall in a reasonable time they should make other provisions for vehicle owners.

11 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 BMW M3

Failure Date: 12/04/2011

I was in a serious automobile accident involving a 2003 BMW M3. I sustained serious facial trauma that resulted in the loss of vision in my left eye. I had facial stitches as well after the accident. I believe that debris was discharged from the passenger side airbag. 2 surgeries were required after the accident to repair damages with no vision restored in my left eye. It was a frontal impact with a solid object.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 BMW M3

Failure Date: 03/31/2009

The contact owns a 2003 BMW M3. While driving 65 mph, the driver's side air bag deployed without a crash or impact occurring. The vehicle shut off, but was able to be restarted and resume normal operation. The contact sustained injures to his left arm due to the deployment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. As a result of the air bag deployment, the cd player stopped functioning and the front passenger side turn signal lens was damaged. The air bag is being repaired for free, but the cd and lens failure will not be covered by the manufacturer. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that an inspector would come out and view the failure. The vehicle was inspected and the manufacturer stated that they would only cover the air bag failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
