On December 5, 2025 the driver side rear tire experienced a sudden blowout while I was driving on a busy highway. The tire completely separated and I lost control of the car and ability to break. I was able to coast into shoulder and eventually the car stopped. The tire showed low air and I filled it prior to entering the highway and was at normal pressure. I also took the car for an oil change and check check 3 days prior (12/2/25) to the BMW dealership and there were no issues with the car. The car is essentially new (purchased new on 9/15/25). We reported the issue tp the dealer and BMW customer relations and was told that it I an issue with the tire manufacturer and not BMW.
Vehicle is not alerting driver that flat tire has occurred. Especially problematic as vehicle has run flats. Pressure sensors are working correctly, and accurately reporting psi and temperature. Software automatically "resets" tire pressure based off of tire size and set speed, this is not something that a user can control. In other words, I can't "reset" the sensors when the tire has 10 psi, so that it will think that that is normal. Asked if others have seen similar issues in a forum: [xxx] right away someone else has had newer car to dealer multiple times with the same issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Carvana - sold me a 2nd lemon. Vehicle has significant oil leak. Front of engine as well as underside of engine is covered in oil. Alternator is saturated in oil. (eventually burning out the alternator) serpentine belt is also saturated in oil making it swell and becoming soft. Also makes the belt slippery and outside edge of belt is damaged. Right rear tire is about to come apart very soon. The steel belt is serpentine from the tire. (unsafe) vehicle currently has 25 intermittent and pertinent codes. Drivers door and drivers side rear door are different color white they have been repainted. Emblem on driver side door is crooked. Vehicle is ready for rotors front and rear. They are grooved brake pad replacement automatic with rotors. 60mph road test revealed car is a little bouncy or chattering indicating one of the following: 1. Unbalanced tires 2. Bad tires 3. Bent wheels.

My husband was driving my infant son and I as we were merging onto the PA turnpike. We hit some small road debris at about 50-60 mph. The debris was so small that we didn't feel a bump or anything, just heard a loud bang and figured we had a typical blow out. The car did jerk to the left moderately but we were able to safely pull over. Upon inspection, the wheel split in half across the entire circumference in the direction of roll. There was a small bend on the inside edge of the wheel at the point of impact but the split was several inches away from this damage. There was also no crack or split at the point of impact. We would have expected there to be a crack in this area perpendicular to the road but instead the crack was in the opposite direction, away from the damage. The tire had no damage to it and was the only thing holding the wheel together as it was in two separate pieces. The wheel contacted the brake caliper, rotor, and dust shield causing abrasions and dents in these parts. Luckily, the brakes held together but this could have been much worse. My husband has seen bent wheels before but this looks like a possible casting problem with the alloy wheel itself as it literally sheared apart. There were 3 vehicles immediately behind us that struct the same debris and only suffered punctures and no broken wheels. The BMW is equipped with no spare but has run flat tires which were completely useless in this scenario. We would not have expected this kind of damage from some road debris, pothole, or any other normal circumstance.
Valve stem body failed during tire inflation. It is not possible to inflate tire to spec. Possible rapid air pressure loss while driving. BMW of san francisco refused to repair under existing manufactured warranty.
BMW tech looked tires over and found rear tires worn through inner edge to the point that it appears only the inner layer of rubber is holding the tire together. Full separation between the sidewall and face of the tire on both rear tires in some spots. Rear tires are dangerous and should not be used on the road or highway until replaced. The car has only 36,000 miles and the rest of the tire has tread. We feel this is well beyond normal wear and it appears that is a defect. I've attached pictures of the 2 rear tires.
Steering drives off the road tires blew. Airbags recall.
Tire pressure monitor signals low air pressure every week on instrumentation. Run-flat tires lose air weekly. Tire has to be topped-up with air then tire pressure monitor test performed. Owned vehicle since February, 2016 and frequent, annoying, embarrasing tire air filling has to be done weekly.
Bought a new 2014 BMW X3. In November 2014 without any warning, this SUV had a mechanical breakdown in the middle of the street. This vehicle controlled itself, I was not in control of this vehicle. For more than half an hour, the truck was jerking hard back and forth if I took my foot off the brakes. The wheels were not moving any time. I could not exit this vehicle because the body was jerking. I thought about jumping out but I didn't know if the vehicle would hit someone or I would have been hit by another vehicle, hurt from jumping and falling, etc. The vehicle cabin felt as though it was disconnected from the bottom of the SUV and held together with springs. My life was in danger as a result of this. The flasher stopped working after a couple minutes. I pushed the starter/stop button, the remote lock, the emergency brake, etc. But nothing kept the truck from moving unless I kept my foot on the brake for over half hour. Also, I had conversations with geico tow and BMW tow while this was taking place. I could not control this vehicle! the damages were extensive to this vehicle that the dealership had to get Bmwusa to authorize the repairs. The mechanic told me in all his years, he had never seen anything like this. The tow truck driver could not get the X3 to move either. I want passport BMW to fully disclose all the problems with the vehicle to the new owners because they appear to minimize damages in their report to me. After this experience, I had to buy another vehicle because I will never drive/ride in that X3. My thoughts are with the people that purchase that X3.
After just spending $2400 last week on my car. I was traveling 65 mph on interstate 78 when my 2004 BMW X3 lost all power. I was lucky enough to glide my car from the left lane to the right shoulder. I tried to start the car again and all the lights on the dashboard kept flashing on & off and car would not start. As I sat in my car on barely a shoulder 18 wheeler's and cars flew by me shaking my car. I seriously thought I was going to die.
I was driving my vehicle when all four tires indicated a major malfunction of tire pressure warning. I immediately went to my local authorized dealer where it was discovered that all 4 tires needed to be replaced, the 2nd time in 2 years, because of interior deterioration from within the tire walls. It was explained to me that the nitrogen used to fill the tires, that are run flats, causes this. The cost to replace each tire was $274. 01. Mind you this is the second time in 2 years and the dealer and tire manufacturer refuse to rectify this issue as well as make good on any warranties that are still in affect.
Driving @ 60-65 mph on hwy, flat warning light came on. On inspection of wheel there was small puncture in tire and a large, silver dollar size "blow out" of wheel mid portion of wheel remote site from tire puncture. Tire was only 3 weeks old. Deny driving over any large object to cause this type of wheel failure. Brought tire/wheel to ntb (where I bought tire). They believe there was a wheel failure based upon inspection. Several persons at ntb looked at wheel that had seen failures before and are convinced that the wheel failed based upon trajectory of small puncture and the size and location of wheel blowout. Regardless, tire is covered by road hazard and is being replaced. Wheel was brought to BMW who disassembled tire from wheel. They state that only thing that could of cased that amount of damage is running over large object such as rebar. This is absolutely false. If ran over any object on highway it must have been small since there was no sensation felt, no noise heard. Only indication that there was a flat was that the tire pressure light came on. BMW has offered to inspect wheel however I believe that wheel is defective and am concerned that there may be others with same defect and may not get honest evaluation. Please advise what to do with wheel.
