Water Pump problems of the 2007 BMW X5

Six problems related to water pump have been reported for the 2007 BMW X5. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. Upon starting the vehicle, the instrument panel displayed a low coolant error message. The contact stated that the coolant reservoir was replenished and the error message was no longer displayed on the instrument panel; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that there was a coolant leak and the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.

2 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

The electric water pump has constantly failed even after replacing it and caused also damage to fuse box and thermostat most of the time. BMW must be forced to recall the 2007 X5 3. 0i and get this problem fixed once and for all.

3 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2013

The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the overheat warning message illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast onto the road shoulder where the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer performed diagnostic and located the failure at the electronic water pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 107,000. Updated 3/5/13 the consumer stated the water pump failed twice. The consumer stated the vehicle suddenly shut down while driving in traffic. The vehicle never ran hot or leaked any coolant.

4 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

BMW recalled X5 from 2008-2011 for water pump failure. My X5 is 2007 and it is identical model as 2008-2011 BMW X5. Same design and same water pump part. However BMW manufacturer said it will not be covered by recall because it is not 2008-2011 model. This does not make sense that they do not recall 2007 X5 even if it is identical car to 2008-2011 BMW X5.

5 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2011

The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. The contact was driving 55 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle began to overheat. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road and was towed to a mechanic who advised that the water pump had failed. The dealer was notified who stated there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was 53,000.

6 Water Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

The contact owns a 2007 BMW X5. While operating the vehicle, the engine would suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump was faulty. The water pump was repaired, but the failure continued. The water pump was replaced on three separate occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The contact received the recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 16v364000 (air bags) in may of 2016. After contacting the dealer and the manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed for the recall remedy were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be provided. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
