Two problems related to brake master cylinder have been reported for the 2008 BMW X5. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 BMW X5. While driving at unknown speeds, the brake pedal was stiff when it was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to BMW of towson (700 kenilworth dr, towson, MD, (410) 317-2228) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. The failure mileage was 104,991.

Extremely dangerous to travel uphill or down hill because vehicle will not remain stationary with brake fully pressed. Owner unaware of brake booster failure due to having no knowledge of brake mechanics. � annotated total failure of brake booster and possible brake master cylinder.
