Three problems related to engine overheat have been reported for the 2008 BMW X5. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving my vehicle in motion, a warning sensor came on stating that my vehicle engine was overheating. Then, my vehicle came to a complete stop, making it unable to drive.
Car was driven at 25 mph. Stopped at destination for approx 10 min. When restarted made loud blower sound but kept driving at 25 mph. After about 10-15 secs, message came that " engine is overheated and drive at moderate speeds" . In about 10 secs after that, message changed to " engine overheated, stop to let it cool down" . Stopped immediately. Called an independant mechanic who advised hat car be towed to their garage problem has still not been diagnosed. Car is very well maintained.
Was driving about 65 miles when the warning light came engine malfunction notification, engine overheated . . . To drive moderately. I pulled over waited a few minutes and drove off again. 5 minutes later light comes back up and says engine overheated stop. . . Call for service. Car now in shop.
