1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

The vehicle backfires and stalls on the road due to Bmws defective pcv crankcase valve. The valve put pressure inside engine which it couldn't handle causing a blown gasket and oil leak, the leak fell on the serpentine belt and ac belt and they slipped off. Causing the power steering to lock up on me while driving. The engine has a whistling noise coming from it. I'm parking and towing to BMW. I can diagnose it without there scanner. This is crazy and very dangerous.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2022

Crank no start scanner saying it is in 3rd gear not park.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

I just went to union park BMW about my car, they stated that my car fuel pump was recalled in 2017 so it was fixed, in 2021 l was stranded twice in 100 degree weather on the side road when the fuel pump went out, so this is the third time this vehicle has had new fuel pumps, now this month on Tuesday 7 /19 when it was hot as hades it stopped again same way it did prior , had it towed and they stated it was wiring that leads to the engine from the fuel pump. They made sure as part of there man made 358. 00$ diagnosis that it was not related to the fuel pum.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

During extreme hot days car has just stopped without warning three times. Fuel pump has been replaced twice , now they are saying wiring from the fuel pump to the computer system the wiring bad? no warning ever!.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

My engine is being effected by the recall. There is smoke and a burning smell coming from my engine. The recall was issued March 2 2002 and today is January 11, 2022. My truck is driving worse daily and I can not get it inspected because it will not read my system.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2022

I was returning home from work and the engine started to sputter/vibrate. I was right next to a gas station and as I was pulling into the gas station, the engine died and would not restart. I had the car towed and then I proceeded to troubleshoot the problem. I did a fuel pressure test and found that there was no fuel pressure. I tested the fuel pump relay and found it to be operational. I accessed the primary fuel pump to check power and found the fuel pump wiring to be missing an inch of insulation on both wires and the insulation is brittle for another inch or two. There were two splices on the fuel pump wiring where recall #16v746000 was performed and a new connector was spliced in. Those two splices were melted together. Recall #16v746000 was a problem with the fuel pump connector melting due to loose wiring. I have concern that there is still an issue with the fuel system wiring overheating or the repair process is not adequate to solve the issue.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2019

Lost power while cruising at 60 m/hr. Other cars almost hit me when I was trying to move to the side for safety causing lots of traffic. Then went to the BMW dealer (patrict BMW) in schaumburg IL for diagnostic and found out there was a problem in the fuel system electrically. The wiring harness were melted , blew fuse and relay and they said the motor also burned out. I will attached document from the BMW dealer for moe info.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

In heavy traffic, the vehicle lost power unexpectedly. The fuel injector malfunctioned. This was due to water leaking to this area as it is not properly protected.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

While driving at speeds up to 70 mph, the vehicle shuts off completely with no warning signs. When vehicle shuts off, all systems are completely off including power steering, antilock braking, the engine itself, all electrical systems, lights - everything completely powerless. The car will then not start for 10-15 minutes, but no check engine lights, and most importantly no errors logged in the computer. The first 2 times this happened was on a freeway at 60-70mph cruising speed. No sounds or warnings the X5 immediately shuts off. We have been fortunate enough to avoid a major accident or severe injury/death this could easily cause. This happened 5 times over a 14 month period, even after 2 BMW certified fixes. After the first incident, we brought it directly to BMW northwest in fife wa. The service department examined the vehicle, talked with BMW us headquarters - their recommendation was that we pay $800 to have the entire fuel system cleaned, and the cause of the problem was likely debris in the fuel lines. We consented to the fix and paid for the repair. After getting the vehicle back it happened 2 additional times. Once again on a freeway going 60 mph, another time on a side street going 30 mph. We then took it back to BMW northwest, they found that there were 3 parts in the fuel system that had not been 'recalled' but were under some type of warranty. Claimed it was a free $3500+ repair, we took it home after the 'fix'. 3 months later, the same issue occurred 1 time while driving the vehicle at about 35 mph. Took it back to BMW NW again, this time they are claiming 3 fuel injectors need to be replaced (but they recommend all 6, even though they were previously determined not to be the cause of the issue). They want to 'eliminate' the possibility with the said fix but believe that is likely not the cause and the root is electrical issues.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

This vehicle has had three open recalls for extensive periods of time, there is no end date to when BMW is promising to complete the work by, and the vehicle is unsellable as a result. For over 18 months, there has been a drive air bag recall open and outstanding with no end date. A second air bag recall has been open for around a year, again with no end date. A third recall relates to the fuel system, and again there is no end date provided by BMW. I have raised a complaint before with nhsta and nothing has been done. We are stuck with our vehicle; no one wants to buy a car with open recalls and no end in sight. BMW dealerships have been told by BMW not to purchase these vehicles. Therefore we cannot even sell the car back to BMW franchises. This is incredibly unfair, especially since BMW has been awarded a large settlement from its air bag manufacturer but taken no responsibility for fixing the vehicles at all. Why is NHTSA not helping consumers suffering losses at the hands of this terrible car manufacturer?.

Since July 2013 I'm having problem with my 2009 BMW X5 where there is raw fuel smell inside of the car cabin, I have taken my car to BMW dealership many times, the dealership says it's the vapor recovery system, but the BMW rep. Shows up and says if it was the vapor recovery system engine check light would go on and he does not let the dealership to change the vapor recovery system for $1100 which is covered under my BMW warranty, I have found that on 2007 and 2008 BMW X5 BMW north America already did a recall on the vapor recovery system and replaced them, but they are refusing to fix my problem and me and my small kids are getting sick driving this car because of the raw fuel smell.
