Unknown Or Other problem #1

BMW recalled X5 from 2008-2011 for water pump failure. My X5 is 2007 and it is identical model as 2008-2011 BMW X5. Same design and same water pump part. However BMW manufacturer said it will not be covered by recall because it is not 2008-2011 model. This does not make sense that they do not recall 2007 X5 even if it is identical car to 2008-2011 BMW X5.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

I leased my 2012 BMW X5 35i in may 2011. I was driving on the interstate with 2 toddlers at around 65 mph, when the car suddenly lost power and the message displayed "engine malfunction, reduced power". I pulled over on the shoulder, and tried to re-start the car, but it won't start. When it did start after multiple attempts, the car shook vigorously and then turned off. I initiated the sos call via the BMW assist feature in the car. For some reason, the call failed multiple times, and the data could not be transferred. When the call did go through, the car could not send my exact coordinates to the reps to help me get a tow truck. After trying for about 30 min to get help from the BMW assist, I tried to restart the car, which started normally as if nothing ever happened. The in-built diagnosis said "all systems ok". I got on the interstate, and as I reached around 60 mph, the engine stalled again with the same message "engine malfunction . . . ". For the next 1. 5 hours, I tried to call the BMW assist over my phone to get help. The said the tow truck should come in the next hour. For about 2 hours, the 2 toddlers and 3 adults were sitting by the interstate. When the tow truck did not show up, I called the BMW assist reps again, to be told that the truck shall take another 45 minutes to reach us. I then called my friend to take everybody home, and I stayed with the car. I then tried to drive at about 40 mph and take the car to the dealer, only to be pulled over by the highway patrol. He said I was violating the law by driving at 40 mph in a 70 mph zone. I then called my insurance company to get a tow truck, which arrived in 30 min. The next day my wife took the car to the dealer, and the report sheet they provided said that the high pressure pump was faulty, and that they have replaced it. I am yet to take my car on the interstate to check the performance at 65 mph.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

In Mar 2007, I purchased a new BMW 2007 X5. Since then we have had two major issues. 1) emergency parking failed in Dec 2007 (less than a year after purchase) and 2) my family including my enfant was looked inside our vehicle for about 10 minutes. My wife and kids were in the vehicle while I went inside the store. After I got back to the vehicle, my wife told me she saw service lights. I try to start the vehicle and the vehicle wouldn’t start. Idrive screen faded in and out, windshield wipers moved slow, and I saw various service messages. In the process of trying to start the vehicle, all doors locked. I try to unlock the doors and wasn’t able to. My family and I were trapped inside the vehicle with our kids. The emergency flashers worked as well as the horn. I notice the vehicle next to me (driver’s side) was backing out. I honked the horn and banged on the window to get the passenger’s attention. She was nice enough to notice and her husband got out the vehicle and called 911. The good samaritan tries to unlock the vehicle from the outside without any luck. The vehicle started to fog up and felt as if there were no air circulating inside the vehicle. I was parked in an area which was not well lighted and it was dark and raining outside. With a dark interior and no lights working inside the vehicle, I wasn’t able to see find the manually unlock in the back trunk area. About 8-10 minutes in to this terrible ordeal, the doors unlocked automatically. BMW service replaced the battery and wasn’t able to reproduce the problem. This is very concerning as my family can be trapped inside the vehicle and BMW wasn’t able to find any issue. If the battery dies again, we may not be as fortunate next time. I have filed a complaint with BMW north America. This needs to be further investigated as others may not be as fortunate due to BMW poor/improper design.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

I took delivery of my new X5 4. 4, on August 28, 2000. There were light brown spots on the entire vehicle. Because of the late hour in the evening, I was told that I could bring the car back at my convenience to be cleaned. I did this and many of the spots were removed. Unfortunately the spots between the panels could not be removed. I tried to have the car privately detailed (as I usually do) and the detailer said that he could not get between the panels to remove all of the spots. The original spots were gone on most of the car, and new spots appeared. This has been a cronic problem. The spots can for the most part be removed, but they do come back and if they are not removed they grow larger and in some cases darker. BMW of north America has sent the regional rep to look at my car and he (steve) deemed it and external factor. Possibly road tar. It was delivered to me with spots, and there were spots everywhere on the vehicle. Most are removable, but they come back and grow. Range rover had a rust problem on their vehicles and they could not fix the problem, they replaced the vehicle. BMW is ignoring the problem. Please email me if you have a similar defect on your BMW (jsb3@attbi. Com).
