5 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2011 BMW X5

Failure Date: 04/04/2015

I was on my way out of town on interstate 94w, when without warning my vehicle started to slow down and I could not accelerate. A sensor displayed stating the vehicle was overheating and to drive moderately. I was in the fast lane and had to get over at a moment's notice even with the vehicle slowing down. The second occurrence was on a busy street with a speed limit of 45 mph, and the car overheated, and stated "engine hot" and it proceeded to shut down. I could not accelerate and was almost hit from behind but the car switched to another lane at the last minute. This car put my life into danger 2 times to many. Something needs to happen before someone dies.

7 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 BMW X5

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

On 1/6/14 I went outside and started up vehicle and let it warm up for a bit and then I drove about 2miles and car was acting funny as I drove it. It didn't want to go so I gave it some gas and rpm's revved up but odometer was moving up and down all crazy. I left vehicle cranked as I went into store and drove it back home. Didn't want to turn it off in case it didn't start back up. On 1/8/14 I went out and cranked car to warm up for a minute and then put car into drive and heard a loud pop. I then put car back into park. Car acted as if it didn't want to stay started so I gave it some gas and then a bunch of smoke came out from exhaust pipes. Turned car off and let all smoke clear and tried to restart car but it wouldn't turn over. Had car towed to import specialty and 2 days later they informed me this is a common issue with make & model that the diaphragm bust and the tcc valve breaks and throws oil everywhere. Thank goodness I bought a extended warranty that covers power train but not this issue $1,725. 00 on the low side to just clean oil out and then we will be able to look further into car to see if engine is salvageable or not. I am in a rental car paying for that, repairs to start are just $1. 725. 00 plus. . . . Car payment. We don't know if warranty will cover this after they find out what happened per mgr at import specialty. I have called BMW nashville for goodwill assistance because of year of car per [xxx] they can't help. This is a know issue with this car and BMW needs to reimburse consumers who have had to shell out monies to fix this issue and other repairs because of this issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2012 BMW X5

Failure Date: 10/23/2011

I leased my 2012 BMW X5 35i in may 2011. I was driving on the interstate with 2 toddlers at around 65 mph, when the car suddenly lost power and the message displayed "engine malfunction, reduced power". I pulled over on the shoulder, and tried to re-start the car, but it won't start. When it did start after multiple attempts, the car shook vigorously and then turned off. I initiated the sos call via the BMW assist feature in the car. For some reason, the call failed multiple times, and the data could not be transferred. When the call did go through, the car could not send my exact coordinates to the reps to help me get a tow truck. After trying for about 30 min to get help from the BMW assist, I tried to restart the car, which started normally as if nothing ever happened. The in-built diagnosis said "all systems ok". I got on the interstate, and as I reached around 60 mph, the engine stalled again with the same message "engine malfunction . . . ". For the next 1. 5 hours, I tried to call the BMW assist over my phone to get help. The said the tow truck should come in the next hour. For about 2 hours, the 2 toddlers and 3 adults were sitting by the interstate. When the tow truck did not show up, I called the BMW assist reps again, to be told that the truck shall take another 45 minutes to reach us. I then called my friend to take everybody home, and I stayed with the car. I then tried to drive at about 40 mph and take the car to the dealer, only to be pulled over by the highway patrol. He said I was violating the law by driving at 40 mph in a 70 mph zone. I then called my insurance company to get a tow truck, which arrived in 30 min. The next day my wife took the car to the dealer, and the report sheet they provided said that the high pressure pump was faulty, and that they have replaced it. I am yet to take my car on the interstate to check the performance at 65 mph.

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 BMW X5

Failure Date: 05/31/2009

I bought a 2005 BMW X5 this may. I feel dizzy and nausea each time I drive it and I didn't know the reason until recently. I bought a gauss meter to check computer emf in my study room recently. Emf is showing as safe in front of every computer in my study room. To my surprise, it showed as danger after I started my BMW X5, even at the back row of the car. I tried it in another car I have, it showed as safe also. So I think this is the reason that caused the dizziness and the nausea. I am not sure what to do with it. I don't want to have any car accident due to dizziness.

15 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 BMW X5

Failure Date: 09/24/2004

The vehicle stalls while in motion. Purchased an X5 in December 2002. Prior to reaching 400 total miles, the car stalled twice while in motion, thus causing all electrical systems to fail. The dealer reported the problem solved. Last week, while driving at 25 mph through the ez pass lanes on the PA turnpike, the car stalled, once again losing power while in motion. Luckily, no one was behind me as they would have certainly rear ended my vehicle. I took the car to the dealer and they acknowledged that another customer had this problem. I dropped the car off on Friday, September 24, 2004, the dealer has yet to diagnose this recurring problem.
