Air Bag Light On problems of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Red air bag light comes on intermittently. Many owners of these cars have complained. It is a poor design and should be recalled. When the air bag light is on, there is no air bags that work. The problem is in the wiring and in the passenger presence system which costs nearly 1k for a new seat bladder which may or may not fix the problem. Many owners of these models are having issues with the air bag systems in these vehicles. Why hasn't gm been ordered to repair all of these obviously defective systems? never had an air bag problem with any other vehicle. Light is on steady now and all air bags are disabled due to this one problem. Not a great design and as a safety issue, it should be a mandatory repair by gm. None of my other brands-Ford, Nissan, or hondas have ever had an air bag problem. This is another ignition key design type lawsuit waiting to happen. Why hasn't a recall been ordered? over 70 complaints right here for same issues. When is something going to be done before deaths occur due to non deployment?.

The air bag light comes on frequently, but mainly during hot summer days and has came on several times since we purchased the vehicle March of 2019. The light comes on when we are stationary and while driving. When doing research, this seems to be a common problem with other consumers vehicles. I had read it was an electrical issue and in my opinion this is very dangerous and should be a recall. Another issue we have that I also seen was a common issue with Lacrosse owners, is the power locks. None of my lock work properly, all of them have to be manually locked and unlocked. Today, December 10, 2019, we noticed that when I tried getting out of the car the door would not open. Door was unlocked and had been unlocked. My boyfriend tried opening the door from the outside and it would not open. I tried to lock it and unlock it again, I tried pushing the door really hard to see if it would pop open and no luck. I think there should be a lot more recalls on this vehicle as I've had this issues as well as many others.

First issue car will shut off driving down the freeway doing 60 70 miles an hour it will just shut off and I have to coast to the side and wait and wait till it starts again very dangerous. Next issue is the airbag light flashes on and off I'm assuming do I do to a pressure sensor in the passenger seat which I have a daughter that sits in the passenger seat and I don't know if the airbag is working or not. Next problem are the door locks they lock they don't lock the left rear does not work I have to manually pull it up and push it down if I want it locked the key fob warning is always on my dash saying key fob battery is low I replaced it I replace the key fob itself it just works when it wants to. Next problem the check engine light comes on goes off comes on goes off and therefore I cannot use my remote start if the check engine light is on it has been checked there's nothing wrong with the car nothing shows up if you check the gauges I don't know what to do I paid a lot of money for my remote start cannot use it and I'm in minnesota. I need my car fixed it's reliable it's a good car it's what I drive it's my car I have a daughter's life at stake in my car I expect it to be trusted in the car that I bought after reading all the complaints on the site regarding the same issues that my car is having I am hoping literally hoping that your company is willing to fix these issues in my car and all the other people that are waiting in line cuz this is ridiculous.

The dealer sent the contact to dale earnhardt jr. Buick GMC Cadillac (located at 1850 capital circle ne, tallahassee, FL 32308) where it was diagnosed with a defective air bag sensor. The contact stated that he took the diagnostic report back to tallahassee Ford since the vehicle was recently purchased there and he wanted them to pay for the repairs. The contact was informed by the sales representative that they would not pay for the air bag sensor repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

The contact called the dealer (sun Buick located in wantagh, NY), but was unable to speak to a representative. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. I had a 6 pack of beer sitting on my passenger seat and my "airbag" malfunction indicator light became illuminated. So I removed the 6 pack of beer from my seat however, the airbag light stayed illuminated. This happened after 5pm so I have yet to contact my dealer as their service closes at 5pm. The car was sitting in the parking lot when this occurred. I found from "googling" this issue that this is a common fault in 2008 Buick Lacrosse models.

The passenger airbag telltale intermittently illuminates while driving. The dealer has advised the airbag is disabled at the times the light is displayed. Nhtsa reports from owners indicate that dealer part changes (control, weight sensor, etc. ) have not been successful to correct the issue. With that in mind, it's apparent that a design issue must be at the root cause. This issue is just as dangerous if not worse than the ignition key issue because both disable the airbag. This issue unlike the ignition issue which causes the car to shut down can go unnoticed if the driver fails to see the indicator light. This exposes the passenger to a potential danger if involved in a crash at that time. Disconnecting and reconnecting the seat belt and repositioning a passenger's weight eventually will turn off the light provided the light is detected and the passenger is advised. Nhtsa should be more aggressive in correcting this dangerous issue. Note: the date entered is today's date since the condition intermittantly continues to occur.

I bought this lovely car and thought I got a great deal-now I wonder what I was thinking!! the car drove home from the dealership beautifully, but after 5 days of owning it I was driving down a major highway at 70mph and the headlights shut off. I now have that problem any time I drive at night. The passenger air bag light goes off and on while the seat is occupied and last night I looked outside, only to discover that my headlights were on. Nothing I did would make them stay off other than disconnecting the battery. The electrical on this car is obviously a nightmare and I will be looking in to trading this car as soon as possible :(.

Once in a while when driving this car, the air bag light comes on . It stays on for a while than it will turn off. It has been also coming on when you start the car and staying on for a while than turning off also . I was told when the light comes on, the airbags don't work . The air bag indicator light on the dash keeps going on and off, indicating the air bags are off, then on. It doesn't matter if someone is in the passenger seat or not. When someone is in the passenger seat, more times than not it indicates the air bag is off.

The description that follows is a safety issue which could result in the death or serious injury of a passenger in the front seat. The air bag indicator for the passenger front seat is continuously lit. The local Buick dealership scanned and checked the air bag system, repaired connections and cleared the code. At present, nearly 8 months later, the air bag light is now continuously lit when driving the vehicle which indicates that there is no air bag protection for the passenger in the front seat. The dealership indicated that the cost to replace and program the passenger position module is $1540. This is a definite safety issue and should be subject to a recall. Gm should not be manufacturing a vehicle in which, at 51097 miles, the air bag system does not function. I note a number of complaints regarding this particular safety issue.

While driving on a major road in florida, the airbag light came on, on the instrument panel of my 2008 Buick Lacrosse. There was a passenger in the seat at the time & had their seat belt fastened. This occurs even if no one is sitting in the passenger seat. The airbag light will go on and off intermittently at any speed, even when sitting still at a light, whether there is a passenger in the seat or not. I believe this to be a major safety issue.

Engine light comes on and car goes real slow, then it wont move. Doors wont lock/unlock with remote and they wont automatically lock/unlock in park or when you start driving. While driving through columbus,ohio 0n November 13, 2013, the car slowed down when I was driving at about 30 mph to stop. The motor stopped and was able to pull into a muffler repair and the told me about a dealership a short distance away and was able to limp to the dealership. The dealership is located in worthington, ohio. After a multi-point inspection, I was told that a faulty accelerator pedal position sensor was replaced at a cost of $102. . 61 plus labor of $384. 00 and shop charges of $15. 00 and tax of $35. 11 for a total of $536. 72. There is another problem of the airbag light going on and off while no one is in the passenger seat and when a person is seated and buckled up according to the law. . . .

I have had two issues involving the need to replace what I understand to be the passenger presence airbag sensor. This item consists of a complete assembly, the actual seat passenger sensor/scale assemble and the associated computer. At about 18,500 while driving, the passenger air bag light would come on and then go off. There was a passenger setting on the seat in excess of 125 pounds wearing a seat belt. After several complaints and tests ,at 24,008 miles the Buick dealer replaced an item listed on the work order as the “inflatable restraint passenger seat suppression module 19124100 module kit”. At about 42,600 miles a similar problem developed in that the airbag readiness icon light, on the instrument panel came on, indicating a complete airbag system malfunction. I soon discovered that pounding on the seat would make the light go out until another malfunction occurred, usually when the passenger got out of the car. Again after repeated complaints and tests at 46,713 miles the Buick dealer installed an item listed on the work order as the a “pps module 19258127 remanufactured module kit”. By whatever name this the second time a complete passenger presence airbag sensor assembly had to be replaced in the passenger seat. I consider this to be a safety issue. In the first instance when the malfunction occurred there was no air bad protection for the passenger. In the latter case there was a complete airbag system failure. The first replacement was covered under warrantee but the second replacement I had to pay for myself. Internet searches have disclosed that there are other 2008 Buick Lacrosse owners with similar complaints about the airbag module failure and cost of replacement. If Buick uses parts subject to repeated failure their replacement should be paid for by Buick.

Air bag light will illuminate periodically when the passenger seat is occupied by an adult 125 lbs and more who is wearing a seat belt. It resets with the restart of the car or sometimes will just reset itself during the travel.

On October 25, 2012, we took our Buick Lacrosse in to sunrise Chevrolet/Buick dealership, collierville, TN. The passenger side airbag indictor had been showing "off" when a passenger was seated. It would sometimes come back on, but did this repeatedly. The dealership "fixed" it, saying it was a "passenger presence module" which they replaced in the amount of $855. 43, parts and labor (not tax). During the last two months, the same thing has been happening with the indicator showing "off" when a passenger is seated and sometimes coming back on. The mileage on vehicle now is 80,500. This would seem to us to be a safety issue and it would seem that gm should bear responsibility for correcting it at no cost to us. We feel sure that we are not the only ones experiencing this fault. Have you had other reports about this issue? please give us your judgment regarding this matter.

The airbag readiness light has been turned on for the last couple of days so I took to the dealership and found out that it was a faulty right front seat mat assembly. They replaced it at a cost of $710. I do not think this should have failed. Approximately 6 months ago the passenger airbag status indicator light indicated that it was not working even with a person sitting there and seatbelt on. They cleaned corroded connections. It certainly appears a defect in the construction of these airbag indicators. This should be covered under warranty.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that the front brake hub speed sensor, the wiring harness and the passenger air bag wiring connector terminal were defective and needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact mentioned that the driver side sun visor was defective and caused a blinding spot. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 20,500. Pmb.

Airbag light consistently going off and on on the passenger side. Have it at the dealer numerous times but the same problem still exists.

I have a 2008 Buick Lacrosse cxl which I purchased 04/29/2008. At about 3,000 miles I noticed the passenger air bag light would come on intermittently showing the bag was off even though my wife was in the seat and buckled up. I took the unit into the local dealer and the service advisor told they couldn't check for a code unless the "off" light was showing when someone was in the seat. Later the indicator lamp started coming on and would stay on (showing the air bag was off) for miles. I returned to the dealer I purchased the car from and they checked all connectors and pins. It did not malfunction when they test drove the vehicle but the malfunction returned on the way home. This dealer has rechecked the vehicle two times to no avail, the light still comes on. I have found if I have my wife move the seat forward and/or backward the light will go of for a while, (the time varies with the road conditions e. G. Rough, smooth, straight, curvy and so forth). I found another instance on line where a 2009 Lacrosse had the same problem as mine. A fix was not provided in their investigation of the vehicle. Buick doesn't list any technical bulletins pertaining to this malfunction. This is a very dis-concerning issue any time we drive and I suppose it is a safety issue also.

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer six times for the similar failure. In 2009, the front passenger seat was replaced and the failure continued to occur. In addition, the air bag sensor was replaced and the technician stated the air bag functioned properly, even though the defect continued to occur.
