My vehicle keeps dying and mechanic said that its my generator control I see this year has recall but why is my vehicle not covered, started happing months ago.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Buick Lacrosse. The contact stated while driving at low speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact boosted the battery and drove to her residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, the service battery charging system warning light illuminated. The contact stated she continued to drive the vehicle. The contact replaced the battery and the warning light disappeared. The contact stated while driving 40 mph, the steering wheel was difficult to turn with the service battery charging system warning light illuminated. The vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to her boyfriend's residence. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and was informed that an unknown electrical wiring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated 2 weeks later, the service battery charging system warning light illuminated again. The vehicle was taken to local dealer hiley Buick GMC of fort worth located at 3535 w loop 820 s, fort worth, TX 76116, (817) 349-6235, where it was diagnosed with needing a generator module to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 13v173000 (electrical system) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,460.
The generator control module and **several** other components of the hybrid assist system failed while driving, and subsequently resulted in a loss of power throughout the vehicle. The main battery (in front) also exploded. The vehicle lost power steering, braking, etc. Loss of power steering hampered the driver's ability to coast out of traffic to safety. Had we not been in the left turn lane and had the arrow not turned green as it failed, the car would have died in the middle of a four lane, 45mph road during rush hour, and we probably would have too. Had the driver not been physically fit, it would have been impossible to turn the steering wheel. Not even the hazard lights worked.
Since I purchased the car in June, 2012, there have been three (3) incidents where there was a gradual loss of battery charge, the vehicle would not start, and the illumination of the malfunction indicator light comes on. The most recent incident was this past Saturday, on November 16, 2013. My car is also equipped with e-assist. I do not know if there is a problem with the generator control module, or similar device. Each time a certified Buick repair service claim they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. Thanks god I have always been in a safe place when this has occurred, and so far there has been no fire in the trunk of my car, which I understand might occur. Thanks for all of your assistance in regards to this urgent matter. Updated 12/16/13.
I recently purchased a 2012 Buick Lacrosse with eassist. I had it less than 48 hours and had to take it to the dealer due to check engine light coming on. They stated the generator was faulty and needed replaced and there were 7 codes that showed up. After about a week they were finally able to have one shipped from the assembly plant. It was installed on 10/21/11 at which time I went to pick it up. After starting the vehicle I noticed the check engine light on again. They tested it and 5 codes came up which they said are related to the generator or eassist system. The car is still there so they will be trying again to find out the issue. There are several TSB's out there for this issue. Hopefully this can be resolved before I go the lemon law rout.
