9 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2006 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 02/27/2013

I went to the parking garage after work, and had difficult getting into my vehicle. The remote did not work. When I put the key in the lock, it would turn but not unlock the door. After about 15 minutes, I finally got into my car. I picked my sister up and went to the restaurant. I was unable to get out of the car. I tried the remote, the inside release and pulling on the lock. I finally got it to release. Then I had problems closing the door. We got it shut but when we came back from the restaurant it was open. I dropped my sister off and drove the mile home, the door again would not open nor would the passenger door open. I am claustrophobic and became very upset. I went back to my sister's and got the door open . We left it ajar, and when I got home it still would not open. After about another 15 minutes, I finally got it to release. Then next day when my husband took the car over to the dealers, he could not get the door to open. He was able to get the passenger door open and climbed out that way. I can understand the electronics malfunctioning, but not the manual system. I really feel this is a safety hazard. I just got off the chat line with general motors and received no satisfaction or resolution. It was $300 to have the driver door lock actuator replaced/repaired. I still have no explanation as to why the manual system did not work. .

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

We have a problem with our automatic power door locks and the remote start feature. They don't work, either by key fob or the power door lock buttons in the car. The only way we can lock our doors is manually. We took to the dealer believing it to be just the drivers door but they told us all our door lock actuators needed to be replaced, close to $1000. 00 repair with no guarantee that the actuators are the true problem. After going on the NHTSA site I see that we are not alone with these problem. I can understand a actuator going bad, but not all of them at one time. I am a former dealership gsm and very aware of "normal wear and tear" and "defects". I've never in my 35 years in the business seen this with door locks. I was insulted by their offer to repair them.

16 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 02/10/2009

On a cold morning in February, outside driver's side door handle broke off during normal opening function. Upon further investigation, it turns out that the entire handle is merely chrome-plated plastic, with pem nuts inserted into the rear side of the handle. The entire tensile load of the handle is carried on these two points, and this is where the plastic fractured. Having no luck finding replacement parts, and no reason to believe that putting a similarly-designed handle would prevent the problem from recurring, I repaired the handle by drilling through the handle and putting 2 bolts and 2 nuts through the body of the handle to secure it to the door.
