While driving on a four lane highway, I applied the brakes and the car pulled violently to the left. Being only a few blocks from my repair shop, I slowly drove there. The mechanic took the car back on the road and when braked, pulled more violently to the left. Upon inspection the frame, engine cradle section, had broken. In 30 years, the mechanic had never seen this happen. The car has only 65,000 miles and even though it is a 1998 Buick Park Avenue it was in good shape. Updated 10/05/10

The contact owns a 1997 Buick Park Avenue. After having new tires placed on the vehicle, the contact drove away and found that the steering wheel felt uneven. The vehicle was taken to another repair shop and the mechanic noticed that the engine was about to fall out of the vehicle. The frame that holds the engine was rusted out. The mechanic replaced the frame and the vehicle currently operates normally. The contact read in consumer report that there were recalls for the frame on other Buick models, but not for the Park Avenue. He feels that the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs because this is a major safety issue. The current mileage was 93,530 and failure mileage was 90,669.

I was driving home from town. I moved over on the street near my home to let another car pass and I felt a large bump and the front passenger side of the car dropped down. I got out thinking I had a flat tire but that was not the case. The tire was in the wheel well at a very crooked angle and sit some what on the tires edge. I was able to straighten out the wheel and limped home. The mechanic on Monday said the cradle in the front of the car rusted out and had broken. When the cradle broke so did the right axle. He has had a hard time finding a good used cradle as gm does not make new ones anymore.
1998 Buick Park Avenue. The consumer stated the cradle on the front end rotted. The vehicle was not driving correctly. The consumer jacked it up and noticed the frame was rotted. The vehicle has not been taken to a dealership; he did not feel it was to drive anymore. The dealership stated there were no recalls, and the manufacturer told him the same thing. The vehicle was also out of warranty for rust. The consumer filed a complaint with Buick, #1-363337234.
Front sub frame of 1997 Buick Park Avenue rotted and collapsed. Fortunately it happened when backing out of a parking space. Axel assembly pulled out of socket. Pictures were taken at the seen and pictures and video at the dealer next day. Rear sub frame appears to be fine. This is a safety issue. The main frame of a $40,000 plus vehicle should not fail in less than 10 years? 100,000 miles. Pictures show much detail of rot. Gm 's best offer was to replace subframe part only. No labor or other damage to be paid for. Photos available. Please help.
1997 Park Avenue Buick the sub frame that holds the engine/ engine drive ,and steering wheels corroded. There was faulty material on this sub frame because it rotted, enabling the driver's front wheel to break away from its mounting, and leaving the vehicle in a hazardous condition. It has been repaired, which was unusual to repair the problem. Mentioned he had never seen a Park Avenue of that year where the frame rotted. It has been repaired at the cost of $725. 00 with labor and used frame.
1998 Buick Park Avenue severed brake lines, left front axle broke due to a cracked cradle. *****
while driving 25 mph the vehicle steering failed. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair facility. Upon inspection the technician found that the cradle had cracked. When the cradle cracked it severed the brake line and broke the front left axle. The technician order two cradles from two different junk yards. Both cradle had cracks in the same location as the consumer's vehicle. New cradles had to be ordered and installed and the left axle and brake lines were replace.
