The car had not been drove in a month, I drove about 3miles then parked, car then started to smoke then caught fire.
The inside of the wheels are flaking off causing the tires to lose air and coming in contact with the caliper lines.
The contact owns a 2003 Buick Regal. The contact stated the aluminum casting around three of the four rims was peeling off. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and was informed this had become a known failure and it was hard to re-seal the wheels. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 55,000. The VIN was unknown.
Oe chrome plated aluminum wheels on my 2003 Buick Regal. Separation occurs between the chrome and the aluminum substrate resulting in an air leak, believed to be caused by salt corrosion. Loss of air could result in a deflated tire and subsequent loss of control. Discovered upon new tire purchase.
