Two problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1996 Buick Riviera. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Auto-tran: while driving highway 55 mph, suddenly gears quit working, vehicle started coasting, no warning, 1st/2nd gears replaced, problem still exist, seems as as though a plastic ring in transmission is defective.
Transmission overdrive burnt out.
