Two problems related to front seat belt retractor have been reported for the 1996 Buick Riviera. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in NHTSA recall 00v057000. Passenger vehicles. The rear shoulder belt(s) do not retract. A retainer could separate from a rear seat shoulder belt retractor which results in the retractor return spring becoming disengaged. Dealer indicated to the consumer that recall applied only for the year 1995 .
Rear seat belt retractor; the retractor spring on the belts, which is held together by a pastic plug over the spring, becomes soft and the plug pops out, causing the spring to fail by jumping out of its housing due to heat encountered on rear package shelf in the summer.
