Dear national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA),I am submitting this report to express a serious safety concern with my 2015 Buick Verano, which I believe is unsafe for shorter drivers due to poor visibility and design limitations. I received this car as a gift from my father, but the moment I drove it off the lot, I realized I could not safely operate it. I am 4 feet 11 inches tall, and this vehicle seems designed for much taller drivers. The windshield is too close, and there are several significant blind spots that make it extremely difficult to see vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles around me. To try to fix this issue, we installed four extra mirrors and I used a booster seat, but these adjustments did not resolve the safety problems. I have experienced numerous close calls, including one incident where I nearly struck a pedestrian I could not see until he moved out of the way. Driving this car has become extremely stressful and frightening due to these visibility issues. I have spoken with several friends who are also under 5 feet 3 inches tall, and they reported the same difficulties when driving a Buick Verano. It appears that this model’s visibility design creates unsafe driving conditions for shorter individuals. I request that the NHTSA investigate this design concern to determine whether the 2015 Buick Verano meets safety standards for drivers of different heights, and whether design changes or warnings are necessary to protect shorter drivers. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue. Thank you.
Buick issued a special coverage adjustment notice for the passenger prescence sensor reference number: n15202352 letter was sent to all customers, I did not ever receive it. I recently started experiencing error messages with my airbags. Upon taking it to the dealer, the airbag sensor issue is related to the notice listed above. Because I never received the notice, I wasn't on alert for issues. I had to pay the full amount for the fix. My bigger concern is that with the airbag service error going off - if I had been in an accident, the airbag might not have deployed. This known issue should have been a recall and fixed in this car.
The contact owns a 2016 Buick Verano. The contact stated that the front driver’s side seat was no longer adjustable. The contact was unable to adjust the height in order to see over the steering wheel. Additionally, while operating the vehicle the check engine warning light remained illuminated; the vehicle failed to properly accelerate. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer was notified but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not contacted and notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.
Check airbag warning light comes on, when someone is in passenger seat. Air bag light is off. When the passenger seat is empty the air bag light is on and the fasten seatbelt light flashes and chimes. I feel this is a safety issue and should be addressed.
Service air bags in the seats come on every year.
My passenger air bag module is faulty, when an individual is in the car, the module doesn't sense the passenger. So there is no airbag and I was told that it's possible in an accident that the airbag would not go off. I paid $600 to get a diagnostic, from marvin k and brown dealership. They reported back to me that the module was at fault. My vehicle is out of warranty. The service airbag notification has been continuously popping up on and off.
While car was unattended at night and parked in the driveway, a fire started, apparently under the drivers seat. The fire burned through the seat and into the driver side door, starting at the bottom and continuing up to the window opening. The drivers door would not open the next day and all the windows were completely smoked over so the interior was not visible. We entered the vehicle through the passenger door and discovered the damage. This event occurred during the night of 12/6/17. As of 1/23/18 Buick has not determined the cause of the problem and has not offered a settlement but has determined the vehicle is a complete loss. The current mileage is approximately 5,500 miles.
My first complaint has to do with the "low fuel" warning indicator not functioning properly. This doesn't occur often, but I've noticed it happen 3 times in the past 6 months, and I'm unsure of when this issue first began. Typically, the fuel level indicator will be at 1/4 or below, and when driving a long distance, stopping and going, and/or on hilly rural roads, when the needle crosses into the red and eventually hits "0" the "low fuel" indicator has not lit up, no message appeared, and no warning chime, but the dic states "low fuel range". Perhaps the sensor is going bad, but why wouldn't the light turn on if the system knows the fuel level is low? I can park somewhere and idle for 30 min and the light still won't turn on. Only after I shut the car off and restart it does the light/warning chime/message appear. Current mileage: 88,600 my second complaint pertains to the airbag: on/off indicator for the front passenger. When the key is turned to on with or without the engine running, the system operates normally, but if I'm charging my phone using a car charger connected to the front aux power outlet, and lay it directly on the right half of the passenger seat, in any position, the airbag light will switch from off to on, but the safety belt light does not turn on or flash, and no chime is heard. When I lift my phone, the indicator returns to normal in a few seconds. I've noticed the phone has to be directly on the seat without anything beneath it in order for this to occur, and it's only on the right side of the seat. I just noticed this a couple weeks ago, but the current mileage of 88,600 still applies. I have not notified a dealer about these issues for fear of having to pay costly repairs I can't afford. However, the airbag issue concerns me the most. I believe there's electronic interference causing it to occur, but it shouldn't be happening regardless.
