1 Wiper problem of the 2015 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 07/22/2025

Dear national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA),I am submitting this report to express a serious safety concern with my 2015 Buick Verano, which I believe is unsafe for shorter drivers due to poor visibility and design limitations. I received this car as a gift from my father, but the moment I drove it off the lot, I realized I could not safely operate it. I am 4 feet 11 inches tall, and this vehicle seems designed for much taller drivers. The windshield is too close, and there are several significant blind spots that make it extremely difficult to see vehicles, pedestrians, and obstacles around me. To try to fix this issue, we installed four extra mirrors and I used a booster seat, but these adjustments did not resolve the safety problems. I have experienced numerous close calls, including one incident where I nearly struck a pedestrian I could not see until he moved out of the way. Driving this car has become extremely stressful and frightening due to these visibility issues. I have spoken with several friends who are also under 5 feet 3 inches tall, and they reported the same difficulties when driving a Buick Verano. It appears that this model’s visibility design creates unsafe driving conditions for shorter individuals. I request that the NHTSA investigate this design concern to determine whether the 2015 Buick Verano meets safety standards for drivers of different heights, and whether design changes or warnings are necessary to protect shorter drivers. Thank you for your attention to this important safety issue. Thank you.

2 Wiper problem of the 2014 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 12/11/2020

A "service side detection error" is causing multiple electrical issues in the front dash: prevent defrost and heat from working in the middle of a vermont winter. This prevents me from seeing where I am going. This has also caused erratic problems with any function/feature on my electric panel, and erratic errors that come and go. There is a very high number of Buick drivers who have had this error with the same exact issues. The sensors in the back wheel wells are not water proof. They get corroded. Additionally, after the sensors are replace, Buick requires the computer be reprogrammed only through them. Non-gm service centers literally cannot reprogram them. I plan to get on each forum to request all drivers with this error file reports with NHTSA. I don't feel enough drivers know that they should/could do this and just end up paying this repair because they are just barely out of warranty, or gm says it is not covered. I also home to start a class-action lawsuit as electric panel issues involving our heating/cooling system fans and defrost, and other random electric problems related to this are vital to a drivers safety.

3 Wiper problem of the 2014 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 02/04/2019

The side detection system has failed so I no longer have mirror blind spot protection. The problem is also causing problems with the instrument cluster failing. The issue is exactly like the one covered by bulliten 16-na-178 for other gm vehicles of the same model years which use the same system. Gm should recall all the cars that used this system, not just some as it is a serious safety issue as the whole cluster can go dead while the car is being driven.

6 Wiper problem of the 2016 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 07/23/2016

I purchased my 2016 Buick Verano on July 23, 2016. That evening while visiting friends, my wife and I left after it became dark. As we started to drive we noticed we could only see out of the lower quarter of the windshield. If I put the high beams on viewing becomes better. But you cannot drive around with the high beams on, all the time! I cannot drive this vehicle at night for fear of having an accident and hurting my family or another family in another vehicle. Tried to trade but they wanted to deduct $10,000. 00 of my vehicle. Gm has no concerns for their customer¿s complaints as I even sent a letter directly to ceo of gm. In one communications with gm they told me, there was no fix for this and case was closed.

8 Wiper problem of the 2012 Buick Verano

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Drivers side windshield does not clear during periods of heavy rain. When the windshield wiper goes to the left, it is okay, but when it returns to the right it drags the water back across in front of the drivers view causing a temporally blocking of view. Using the wipers at high speed makes it almost impossible to see out the windshield. This is a very dangerous situation. We have been dealing with this since we first purchased our new vehicle. Gm installed a product called clearvue and changed the wiper blades. This has not helped. We have been advised by berglund chevy. That gm does not feel this is worth their time because there are not enough vehicles with similar problems. Talked with gm today and they gave me their old case number 71-1508013118 and a new case # 71-1508013118.
