My 2016 Cadillac Ats coupe has a serious repeating safety defect. The vehicle violently shakes, vibrates, and becomes unstable while driving. This happened twice. Both times the rear bolts came out except one. Both mechanics who inspected it said they have never seen this before. The first time, I paid $4,000 out of pocket at another shop. The problem happened again, proving this is a manufacturing defect. My axp diagnostic on November 4, 2025 confirms major rear differential/axle issues. The vehicle is unsafe and undrivable. One mechanic told me do not drive it. Cadillac told me the opposite — “safe to pick up” — even though they did no real diagnostic. Cadillac refused to give anything in writing, refused a loaner, and ignored multiple emails. A Cadillac representative told me they reviewed the previous calls, meaning they know the full history. They still refused to fix the dangerous defect. I have paid over $33k, paid $4k for the first repair, still owe $7k, and Cadillac now wants another $7k for the same issue. This is a major safety risk to me and other drivers.

My ball joints on both sides were completely gone, my struts have given out repaired all at the same time, because of those things going out it completely ruined my tires to where they squeak down the road. Both differentials are leaking and my transmission shutters, I also had to replace my water pump that was leaking cooling everywhere.
I was making a left turn and I heard a loud popping noise. I pulled the vehicle into a parking lot. After stopping it would not move. When I put the car in gear I would hear a loud grinding noise coming from the back wheel base. I had the vehicle towed to a repair shop. I was told that the roll pins that connect the axel to the rear differential had come out. I am unable to have the car repaired because there are no rear differentials available in that there is a nationwide back order and no one knows when they will be available. This seems similar to the problem that led to a recall of the 2014-15 Cadillac cts model. Nhtsa recall no. . Read more...

2011 Cadillac Ats 3. 6, rear differential went out, repairmen has stated that this part is not available anywhere, and that Cadillac should have recalled this in the Ats, because there is a shortage of this part. Due to the inefficiency of the rear differential. But, Cadillac would have been out of a lot of money. Without this part, the Cadillac is undrivable.
The contact owns a 2013 Cadillac Ats. The contact stated that while her husband was driving approximately 35-40 mph, the vehicle started making abnormal loud popping sounds and the vehicle inadvertently stalled. The contact's husband was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that one of the driver’s side rear axle was missing all the bolts. Additionally, the passenger’s side rear axle was missing one bolt, and had loosened bolts. The independent mechanic replaced the driver’s side rear axle bolts and washers and tightened the passenger side rear axle bolts. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
The vehicle was leaving a parking space when the power steering just stopped working in the middle of the road. The service power steering light came on andhad to get the towed to the mechanic. The mechanic found the power steering bolts corroded and in order to removed them he had to remove the rack and pinion and also found those bolts to be corroded. My daughter was using the vehicle and usually travels on the highway to work.
At 38,000 miles, rear differential leak discovered. Dealership repaired leak. At 42,000 dear differential leak discovered. Prognosis: rear differential failure. Dealership replaced rear differential, shocks. Cost repairs paid by me (Cadillac rejected paying repairs).
