The contact owns a 2005 Cadillac Cts. The vehicle was being serviced at an authorized dealer for an unrelated issue when he was advised that the rear differential pinion seal was leaking. The rear differential pinion seals were replaced. The contact located a recall in regards to the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 07v589000 (power train:axle assembly:axle shaft:seal) but was advised by the manufacturer that his VIN was not part of the recall. The vehicle was repaired at the contacts expense. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.
Bad wheel hop under light loads dealership replaced some parts but did not help.
I was simply driving "normally" and a "clunk" was heard from the rear of the car. The vehicle was not drivable. It had to be put on a flat bed truck and taken to the dealer. The right hand half shaft broke it two pieces and destroyed the differential in the process.
Shifting the vehicle from 1st gear to second gear and upon releasing the clutch there is a loud bang. Half shaft broken. This is the second time the rar end of one of my Cts-v's has broken.
