Electrical System Problems of Cadillac DTS - part 1

I was traveling on stevenson expressway at 55 mph when the fuel pump relay overheated and melted, which burned up the rec (rear electrical electrical center /fusebox). When the fuse pump relay overheated it shut fuel down going to the fuel pump, which caused the engine to stall. When the engine stalled the car cut off, causing me to loose power steering. Because I was traveling in the middle lane of a three lane expressway at a high rate of speed, the vehicle started deaccelerating and I couldn’t control the vehicle with no power steering, I couldn’t get over to the shoulder. This nearly caused a wreck putting me in harm, because vehicles around me were accelerating at 55 to 70mph. All I could do is put my flashers on. Coast to a stop, and hope no one rear ended me, which nearly occurred. Driving at night on I-29 south and headlights went off intermittently but not simultaneously. Headlamps continued intermittent cut-out until reached destination (approx 3 hours later). As a safety issue for driving while dark, had both assemblies replaced at Cadillac dealer for approx $3,950. 00. Replacement was Cadillac recommendation as it was stated the electronics do fail in these headlight assemblies. After replacement and as a follow-up, new assemblies were installed and are not sealed against the elements. In February 2024, on a 5,000 mile trip, drove several hours during cold, snowy and raining conditions. Both headlight assemblies had a considerable amount of moisture inside the lens housings (see photo). Cadillac dealer did replace one of the new headlight assemblies due to moisture accumulation in assembly under parts warranty, but not both.

While driving at night in July, 2023 on I-29 south in south dakota, both headlights began to go out intermittently but not simultaneously. Continued driving for approximately 3 hours to final destination. Took to local Cadillac dealer for diagnostics (invoice 694540) and after dialogue with dealer had both assemblies replaced as was informed the electronics have been noted to fail in these assemblies. I replaced both assemblies for approximately $2,950. 00 (invoice 699787). As a follow-up, during a recent 5,000 mile trip during February 2024, driving in cold, rain, snow and road spray conditions for days, both headlight assemblies accumulated a significant amount of moisture (see photo) behind the lenses. Cadillac dealer did replace left assembly (drivers side) under parts warranty but not the right side. Both headlight assemblies are operating without incident since replacement, except as noted above on assemblies not sealed against environment/elements.

The contact owns a 2010 Cadillac Dts. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the vehicle shut off. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to restart and was pushed to the side of the roadway. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove to the residence. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle started and shut off immediately. The contact stated she smelled a burning plastic odor coming from the rear seats. The contact stated that upon lifting the rear middle seat, she noticed that fuses had melted in the fuse box. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 168,000.

Was backing out of my parking space and the warning icons on my dash,(service brake system,stabiltrack, traction control. 4 years ago I had to replace a (yaw) that goes under the driver's seat because moonroof is leaking so I sealed the roof. The yaw controls the stabiltrack. I took it to a auto parts store to get diagnosed and it says speed sensor or possibly a wheel hub. Ive owned cars for 50 some years and never had this problem. The car only has 110,000 miles. Iam tired of problems related to this issue as I said first was yaw ,now hub for car. There must be other owners that have had this problem. This is supposed to be a luxury automobile and miles aren't high.

I called onstar because my car would not start and they sent someone from gm. The guy looked at my car, could not identify the problem, so I got it towed to a repair shop. Ends up, I had to replace the transmission. The repair shop ran electric test on the vehicle and no codes or issues. My dash is now reading service power steering and this is a safety issue that needs to be fixed by the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2009 Cadillac Dts. The contact was driving at 55mph on the highway and the vehicle slowed down independently and the screens went blank. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was shut off but would not restart. The contact called the police and the officer called a tow truck. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic on 3 occasions replaced the same relay fuse however, the failure persisted. The manufacture was informed of the failure. The 2007 Cadillac Dts has heated/air-conditioned front seats. They went out. Looking on the Cadillac users' website it seems to be a common problem. The connectors burn out, even though they are connected to a 30 amp fuse. Having an electrical system short out under the passenger seat can be life threatening. Request a recall on the faulty connection box under the passenger seat. The heated rear seat is fine.

The car gives off false oil pressure information on cars message center. I replaced the sensor as discribed, verified my oil level, cleaned the connector to oil pressure sensor and still every 2 or 3 mintues I get engine oil pressure low, stop vehichle. When I stop the oil level is great and the oil is very clean. This has been going on for over 3 months. If the oil pressure was low the engine would have siezed up by now. This is ongoing issue with these 08 Cadillac Dts 4. 7l northstar engines.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Cadillac Dts. The contact stated while driving 30 mph the contact turned on the right turn signal which caused the light to burned out and burned the housing of the headlight. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to independent mechanic were it was diagnosed with needing to be replaced a new headlight housing assembly. The vehicle had not been repaired as of yet. The contact stated local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure.   the failure mileage was approximately  39,700.

Engine failure do to poor design and oil leaks. I had this happen on the highway witch is very dangerous. The whole engine needs recalled. The electrical system is a night one my fuse box's needed replaced because a fuse burned out, witch melted a good portion of it. Major fire hazard!!!!.

My 2008 Cadillac Dts woudl not start, I found the fuel pump relay to be burnt. I replaced and was able to drive for 150 miles, same thing happened again. Replaced the relay again in order to get home. I then replaced the fuel pump, same thing happened. Then I researched that this is a known problem and that the fuse box under the rear seat needs to be replaced. Fuel pump relay keeps burning up under the rear seat, potential fire hazard. It will continue to burn until you remove it.

Car stopped operating all of a sudden. Battery charging issue.

2008 Cadillac Dts (100k mi) was parked and engine would turn over but not start. I determined that there was no fuel to engine by checking schrader valve on fuel rail. Proceeded to check fuel pump (fp) fuse (ok) and fp relay (burned on pin 30 along with fuse block). Replaced fp relay; however, after a few minutes from vehicle start, the relay heats to about 200 degrees f. After reading several forums, this is not uncommon: it appears the fuse block (under rear seat ). Is defective. I have ordered gm block 19116810 which apparently supersedes the original factory gm block 13599106. This problem clearly poses many safety issues: fire, engine shut down while driving, etc. Gm needs to take ownership of this problem. Moreover, I have also experienced the burned out connector (under passenger seat) for the heated seats. Fortunately, I did not have the heated windshield washer option which also experienced electrical issues. Shame on gm for not correcting these engineering design defects. Safety should be paramount with these types of issues on your vehicles especially your premier brand (Cadillac).

Cant bring driver or passenger seats up or down resulting in uncomfortable driving position in drive, neutral, park, all gears. Distance sensors malfunction frequently when going into reverse.

The drivers side headlight shuts off and on or flickers - most noticeable during night time driving. Our dealer, ed shults Chevrolet, advised us that this particular model of the Cadillac cts was not under recall. We wanted an explanation as to why when all of the testimonials from other 2006 Cadillac owners reported the same problem. They dealer stated it had to do with where the car was manufactured. The total charge to us was $901. 80 to replace the light + labor. This was probably happening all the time we were driving but we only began to notice it during night time driving, most especially driving back from the buffalo International airport on the thruway. We live in the city of jamestown, NY so it wasn't really noticeable because of the city lights. After that, we were more diligent when driving at night and discovered0 it was on a daily thing. That was very scary.

2007 Cadillac Dts has been giving me problems with leaking water from either the moon roof or roof itself near driver's door. The floor gets soaked with water and has caused a part called a yaw under the seat to short the wiring out and had to be replaced because it controls the tail lights and tail lights and brake lights were staying stationary when driving so car behind me has no indication whether brakes are being applied. I replaced the yaw but the roof is still leaking and it could happen again and could cause the floor to rot out from repeatedly getting wet when raining. I feel this is a serious safety concern and should be fixed by Cadillac.

The fuel pump relay is burning out and causing the car not to start. I was driving the car and it just stalled out in the road.

I have 70. 000 miles and not only just have to get new air conditioning now I am back in shop and my car is now misfiring on 3 pistons. I should not have to buy a new car and 70,000 miles I have babies I his car with most except endive has and oil changes per r commended mileage. I have another car at dealership too and would hate to think it is dealership but between the 2 I have spent over 15,999 in repairs and the denellli now also has issue with air. That too is 2006 and 70,000 miles.

Tried to start my car and it would turn over but not crank. Replaced the fuel pump and fuel pump relay. Car started and I drove about 10 miles and it cut off while driving. Since we replaced the relay my husband took out the back seat to check it to find the fuse box too hot to touch and smelled like burning wires. He disconnected the battery to avoid a fire. This could have been a disaster had he not had the forethought to check the fuel relay. It was just before causing a fire and we had two passengers in the back seat.

I was driving my car one day and I started to smell something melting it wasn't to strong but you could smell it the next day I smelled it again and then I noticed it coming from under the front passenger seat so when I got home I started to unplug the connectors to see if something was melting and when I unplug the one for the heated seats I saw it was melt and I went online to look if this is a problem and many owners have this problem and this could cause a fire it looks like and there should be a recall for this I do not this its safe, contacted gm told them about it and they said its out of warranty.

There was a recall on this igition switch before. The igition switch is not locking and so is the steering wheel. My vehicle was stationary when I discover this. I'm afraid this may cause others issues.

Fuel pump relay overheated to the point of melting causing irreparable damage to the relay and the fuse block located inside the passenger cabin under the back seat of the vehicle creating a potential fire hazard. Vehicle was in motion on a city street when failure occurred causing loss of all power steering and braking.

In Nov. Of 2016, my Dts was parked and after attempting to start, it would not turn over as if were out of gas. I had to have it towed to repair facility. It was diagnosed and determined that the problem was caused by the fuel pump relay, which had shorted. Further investigation revealed that the actual cause was the fuse block (rear seat). This item is a dealer repair level and should have been recalled since there are several cases of this and other electrical problems involving sudden cut-offs, power steering issues and ignition key problems noted here. My car has experienced all of these.

I was backing my car out of my driveway, as I backed onto the road,the car suddenly quit running. I tried restarting it,but it was completely dead. . . I had to call a tow truck and the car was taken to a local Cadillac dealer. . When I went to the dealer the following day,I was informed that the fuse box under the rear seat had shorted out. . . I was told there was not any recalls on the fuse box that they new of. . I was told a new fuse box and associated costs would run $716. 00, I had no choice but to have the repair work done. . The fuse box cost alone was over $400. 00. My car had 48,000 miles on it when this occurred. . I have had many cars in my time and never had a fuse box short out. . If this occurred on a highway,I would have lost p/s,,p/b ect. And the results could have been fatal. . . Gm is aware of this,but to myknowledge has not issued a recall. Incidently ,the dealership had fuse boxes in stock. . . . . .

Received recall notice stating #14299 ignition key rotation was an issue. Stated service had not been completed. I had installed and paid for a complete new ignition unit earlier this spring at a cost of $400. Oo plus. I am not happy to know the old unit needed recall, and further that my dealer never notified the manufacturer. I believe I have a refund due at this time. Please reply as soon as possible.

The contact was uncertain if the manufacturer had a repair solution. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,400.
