I bought the car with 69k miles in may of 2016 and now its has 80k miles Feb 2017 and I have an oil leak that is leaking on the drive side of the oil pan from the front to the back and its leaking on the the exhaust the runs from the front of the engine that is bolted on the the oil pan and I am worried that it is going to catch on fire and I see that this problem is on a lot of this cars and with lower miles then mine I think gm should recall it because less then 100k miles and to have an oil leak that leaks about 1 quart every 1500 miles or so and its leaking right next to the exhaust and right on top of it the could case fire is unsafe, and to cost $1000-2000 to fix there design flaw the owners should not have to pay I could understand if it had more then 100k miles.

Excessive engine oil leaks and usage. Parked and driving. I have been informed by several mechanics that this is a very typical problem with the northstar engine but I dont believe it should be so. The estimated cost to attempt a fix runs up into the $1000s of dollars . I think that general motors should be at minimum partially responsible for this defect!.

Lower engine oil leak. I understand that this is a common problem dating back a number of years and Cadillac has not rectified the problem and has not issued a recall. I was blown away to find oil under my 07 Dts Cadillac, then to learn it's common. Thinking it was a drain plug or oil filter changed the oil. No such luck, it's the engine lower end leaking. Thinking it wasn't so bad to not drive I watched the oil level closely. I noticed oil film covering the right rear quarter panel and rear trunk lid and a drippy coating of oil under the car. This makes it a danger to the highways and other cars by leaking a quart every hundred miles. For drivers not watching oil levels this will turn into a broken down car at best, an oil fire very possible on the road these are never safe. This has been a common problem with the Cadillac northstar engine for years, I say it's time to do a recall for this problem before people get injured or killed. A little pro-active recall is in order.
Both block halves and the cam covers began leaking and they tell me the repair will cost $3,500. 00. The vehicle has always had regular oil changes and maintenance and has low mileage for a 2006. I have heard this is a regular problem with this year cadilac.
This automobile has an oil leak that could cause a fire and general motors are repairing vehicles, but will not make a recall. These automobiles are Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Buick models dating back to 1993 through 2008. A bulletin # 03-06-01-027 dated may 1, 2008 verified gm's knowledge of the problem. There is a faulty design between the motor and oil pan in these automobiles to cause them to leak so soon. Please investigate this matter. Updated 03/10/11.
The engine leaks oil, not just spots, actual drips, have to add much oil in between oil changes.
