Engine Burning Oil problems of the 1997 Cadillac Eldorado

There was excessive oil burning. Also, engine burned two quarts of oil every three thousand miles. Consumer contacted the dealer, dealer stated that engine needed to be rebuilt. Please provide any furhter details.
