3 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 06/26/2017

When making right hand turns, the car stalls temporarily not allowing me to accelerate or acclimate to oncoming traffic. While this is happening, the traction active symbol is displayed on the dashboard. Within a few seconds it seems to all work again, however it seems to be a safety issue as other cars are either assuming I will be at their speed, or assume I am allowing them to go when in fact I am stuck. I have 3 children in the car and I am becoming scared that this may cause an accident and is a major safety concern.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Vehicle detects fault and displays message to service stability control system. Specific problem not yet diagnosed. Within a few moments, the display states that engine power is reduced. This causes a very unsafe condition as the vehicle slows to 10-15 mph. Pressing gas pedal causes transmission to downshift to lower gear slowing vehicle further. Cannot safely maneuver in traffic, brakes require much higher pedal pressure due to low vacuum boost after engine power reduced. Insufficient warning that this is happening. Problem is not with engine or powertrain, but engine power is cut (engine runs very rough as a result) in response to detected stability system error. Engine runs fine if turned off and restarted. No overheating, oil level is fine, gasoline is good, no external problems. After restarting car drives fine initially, event recurs within 1 mile. Very difficult to try to justify this kind of intentional vehicle control behavior. Extremely poor design that causes an unsafe condition when a stability system error is detected.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2005 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 04/11/2013

I was driving along a city roadway when the vehicle's stability, traction control, and engine light came on simultaneously when all of a sudden the vehicle just stopped, almost causing the car behind me to collide with my vehicle. I called the dealer, lawley's gm store in sierra vista, az. Where I had just purchased the vehicle and told the service manager what happened. . . He sent a tow truck to pickup the vehicle and after inspecting the vehicle at the dealership told me it was the throttle body needing replacement. . . I bought a new one and had it installed. Ran fine for a couple of weeks after which the vehicle began stalling while driving on a city road when the same thing happened again, but this time when the vehicle stopped without any warning causing the vehicles behind me had to swerve around me almost causing accidents with oncoming vehicles. Called the dealer again, had the vehicle towed in and this time was told that the vehicles computer was not programmed right and that it also needed throttle body harness. . . Bought the harness and had it installed as well as the dealer reprogramming the computer. Car did well for a few months when it happened again (vehicle stopping unexpectedly), this time approaching a major crosswalk and once again causing the vehicles behind me to come a abrupt stops, fortunately a city police vehicle was on the opposite side of the crosswalk and the officer witnessed what happened, put his vehicle's emergency lights on and came over to help me push out from the street to a walgreen's parking lot where I once again called the dealer, had it towed to dealer where they told me the throttle body pin connectors had to be soldered on which they did. Car is running ok for now, but I am concerned that I may be driving and the vehicle will once again stop unexpectedly and cause an accident. There are consumer posts on this problem on the web.

12 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 03/30/2013

The engine shut off when I was driving on a side street at 20 mph, and also shut off 5 times as I was driving on the highway at 65 mph. The cluster panel turned off, but the radio stayed on. The odometer showed a message engine control module (ecm). I pulled over, put the car in park, and restarted the vehicle each time. The Cadillac dealership said that rear axle pinion seal was the only recall for my Sts, but I am experiencing NHTSA campaign number: 06v020000 , and NHTSA campaign number: 06v007000 also.

13 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2003 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 08/21/2012

Vehicle was idling in driveway during strong electrical storm. Lightning appeared to hit a tree nearby. Simultaneously, several dash warning lights came on and stayed on, including anti-lock brake, traction and stability control warnings. Call was made to insurance company and vehicle towed to Cadillac dealership. Service department said cause of the warning light was a bolt near wire to anti-lock brake power control module had worn insulation off, causing failure of power control module. If indeed lightning/power surge did not cause this problem, improperly located bolt or design would seem to be defective.

15 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/18/2010

After purchasing a used 2006 Sts awd from Cadillac NJ in December 2009, wife noticed while making right hand turns on smooth pavement, car seems to stall temporarily not allowing me to accelerate for a few seconds and message traction active is displayed. January 18, 2010,I brought the car back to dealership to complain. They said prob bad gas in lines. Put new gas in and gas treatment for water in tank. Did that, didn't help. February 1, 2010 I returned to dealership to complain it was still doing it on occasion. I asked if there were any complaints on this vehicle. Got a no response. May 2010 brought car back to dealership to complain. By this time my wife has refused to drive it for safety reasons (people think she is letting them into oncoming traffic when car slows down). Looked on internet and found other complaints. I was told gm engineering is aware of issue and are working on solution. Made complaint to gm in sept 2010 was told software update will be ready in 2 months. After getting dodged for 2 1/2 more years, made second complaint to gm April 2012. Gm executive stated I can use a rental due to the seriousness of the condition losing power while driving. They said it was fixed. A week later it started again. Gm executive and service manager of Cadillac called to say that the car was designed that way. There is no fix on it. I told them the 2011 Sts rental I drove did not have any problem losing power while in a turn. They said it is a different system. I said "so there was a problem with the old system" . I was let out of the door with an offer from gm exec's, $4,500 off price of a new car at their dealership. I asked, what about safety? I told them I own a car that my wife refuses to drive due to loss of power. I only drive car because my wife drives my truck. Gm knows of this safety issue. Service said problems on 2006-07 Sts's. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

16 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Making a right turn onto a road from a stopped position results in activation of stability control and complete loss of power for 1-2 seconds. Without any change in pressure on the accelerator, the vehicle speeds up. This has happened repeatedly.

17 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 12/23/2008

About 30% of the time I am making a hard right turn, the vehicle stability system kicks in on my car. This happens on dry pavement. The car slows and there is no acceleration for about 2 seconds.

18 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 06/13/2008

I was leaving greenville, s. C. And the left side brakes lock and pulled me into the left lane of traffic and I took my foot off the gas and the car free rolled for a short distance while I got back in my lane. I reapplied the gas and got back up to twenty-five mph and the right side brakes locked. I was only going approximately twenty five mph when all of this occurred. I stopped in the emergency lane and got out of the car. I saw nothing visibly wrong and started up the emergency lane and the brakes continued to lock as I was going up the emergency lane. I got the car to the first exit and took that exit. I parked the car in a private business and had it towed from there.

20 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 11/18/2006

Cadillac Sts.

21 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/01/1973

There actually is no incident yet. The date is bogus so I can process this. My car is equipped with cadilllac's stabilitrak system. Approximately 80% of the time when making right hand turns only the system engages. Approximately 50% the car decelerates. When trying to make a right hand turn into traffic this is a dangerous situation. When I am trying to turn and join traffic and the car decelerates I am liable to be hit one day. I can be starting from a complete stop or I can even be rolling through a green line and this system will engage, but only in right hand turns.
