1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 11/25/2021

The Cadillac company sent me a letter several years ago informing me of a premature timing chain wear and the illumination of the service engine light. They knew about this defective engine problem but they did not recall the vehicle. Instead they extended the engine warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles. I have only 90,000 miles on my vehicle but I've owned it for over 10 years and now the check engine light is illuminated. The Cadillac dealer refuses to extend the warranty. This is a safety issue because if the engine were to fail the driver would also lose power steering and power brakes putting the safety of the vehicle occupants and others at risk. I believe that this vehicle and other gm vehicles with the 3. 6 liter engine should be recalled and repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

The vehicle intermittently loses engine/ electrical power while driving. When the power loss occurs, brakes and steering lose proper functionality creating a threat to the driver and passengers as well as other motorists. The vehicle then is unresponsive to the proper starting procedure. Restarting the vehicle is inconsistent. It may start immediately upon command or it may cause a theft procedure to initiate. The vehicles dic will possibly show the following prompts just before the shutdown failure occurs; service vehicle soon, service stability system soon, service a/c system soon. During the shutdown failure, no electrical components are operable but power is still available to the car allowing the dic to prompt 'no fob detected' or 'theft attempted' and the fob will intermittently allow you to send lock/ unlock commands during the shutdown failure. The failure happens in any scenario and is intermittent in the aspect of no failure occurs for a week or 5 failures occur in a day. I cannot determine when the failures began happening considering I purchased the vehicle used with 155000 miles and the failures have been happening since day 3 of my ownership. The vehicle is currently at a midland michigan Cadillac dealership being diagnosed.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Vehicle detects fault and displays message to service stability control system. Specific problem not yet diagnosed. Within a few moments, the display states that engine power is reduced. This causes a very unsafe condition as the vehicle slows to 10-15 mph. Pressing gas pedal causes transmission to downshift to lower gear slowing vehicle further. Cannot safely maneuver in traffic, brakes require much higher pedal pressure due to low vacuum boost after engine power reduced. Insufficient warning that this is happening. Problem is not with engine or powertrain, but engine power is cut (engine runs very rough as a result) in response to detected stability system error. Engine runs fine if turned off and restarted. No overheating, oil level is fine, gasoline is good, no external problems. After restarting car drives fine initially, event recurs within 1 mile. Very difficult to try to justify this kind of intentional vehicle control behavior. Extremely poor design that causes an unsafe condition when a stability system error is detected.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

Purchased 2006 Cadillac Sts built on June 21 2005 last day of 2005 model. Car has had all the issues that 22005 vehicle had. June 23rd 2005 was first day of production. At every corner VIN # are noted however for this model the build days which noted by Cadillac are the important factors. I don't think coincidence that I've been companling to Cadillacand asking for help with zero help. Catalytic converter was extended warrantee for 200000 and 12 years however Cadillac always says VIN even though dates are the only thing noted. I have called and e,ail for 3 years. My car is off road and they have refused to look and even if I paid they wouldn't guarantee they would even look at the issues. My car is in absolute limbo neither a 2006 or 05 or whatever. They have refused every step even though it was based on recalls.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 01/11/2016

Hello,     I purchased a 2006 Sts v8 last January. Since then I have had to replace all four tires immediately, a starter, and the brakes and then replace front brake pads again.  I recently went to auto shop and was told catalytic converter and suspension need to be replaced.      after investigation I realized there was recalls on the 2005 Sts v8 model for the  brakes, suspension and the catalytic converter has an extended warranty of 12 years and 200000 miles.   the fact is that further investigation showed my car was built in 2005 and the actual manufacture date on vehical was 6/20/2005 which was last date of production for the 05 model.  the 2006 manufacture or build date began on 6/23/05.  it seems odd all the recalls for the 05 model are all the year old vehicle are faced with.  I called Cadillac and they said although the build date of vehicle is valid the VIN number is what is followed.  however, further research shows they actually found the same recall on the 05 catalytic converter on a 2007 Cadillac.       everything points to the fact that the  my 2006 model was actually either a late model of a 2005 by the build date of 6/20/05 and or the same parts have been used as the 2005 recall.  lastly the VIN number when I pulled up on a site showed it was actually a cts model.   I have spent a lot of time and have a great deal of data I could share that would back that my 2006 Sts v8 actually is part of the recall cars.    I understand the VIN number is what is looked at but when model year cars are being made and sold as different years than when they are produced and recalls effect the year of actual build this becomes very concerning.  as in the past year I will be spending over 3000$ plus dollars to fix this car.    I. Hope you can look into.  as  they wont even investigate or give me the serial numbers for the parts being recalled.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

1) on interstate I-495 long island expwy, car moving slow came from on ramp straight across to middle lane. Went to accelerate to pass in left lane and engine stopped. Putted on emergency flashers and was able to pull into hov shoulder and restart engine. 2) on northern state pkwy (2 lanes only) on long island, NY and was in right lane- saw oncoming traffic merging ahead and went to give gas to move over to left lane and engine stopped. Again- moved to shoulder, restarted engine. 3) was doing 65 on njtpke I-95n in left lane between cars and trucks on right. Engine stopped (no acceleration- just straight driving). I was between vehicles and no place to pull over- put car into n and restarted and back to drive. This happened again- did same thing. When it was clear- pulled over to right shoulder- turned car off and restarted and continued trip. ** could this be part of the recent recall on caddys 2005-11 but did not include Sts's???? just for the record- have new air filter and sprayed both the maf and throttle body valve with correct cleaners- recently- after seeing a video on caddy complaint forum.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

I was at a complete stop. I started going up the driveway, I felt the car lurch foreward. I thought I was slamming on the break, but hit the gas instead. The car crashed into the house moving the concrete block. The airbags did not deploy. I broke my neck at c4 and c5. I have seen 3 reports on this site detailing the same. All these cars were 2007 Cadillac Sts. With all the problems with gm and airbags, could this be related?.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

The fuel delivery system has been failing in the same manner that I have seen many other Cadillac owners have gotten repaired through a recall already in place. Every single time I put gas in the tank the car refuses to turn on with the first attempt. The only way to get the car to turn on is after multiple attempts and finally enough fuel gets delivered to the system. Similarly, the car will hesitate or feel like no gas is being delivered to the engine while driving on the highway. Often, it will cause a dramatic drop in speed causing a dangerous situation. Gm definitely needs to take this into consideration because it is faults equipment rather than wear and tear. Also, there seems to be a some major issue with the oil system in the car. One week after a synthetic oil change, there is over 1 quart of oil missing in the reserve. There has been over 4 quarts missing at a time.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 08/18/2013

Twice drive on interstate (possible after rough area on interstate) reduce power light and no engine power atlanta, GA traffic nearly got hit several times trying to get to the side of the interstate. Now three times stop car put in park and engine will not shut off, light says put in park although it is in park or should be. The recall on the drive axle seal, caddillac would not cover cost, I did pay to have it fixed at hoover, al caddillac.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

While driving my 2005 Cadillac Sts in afternoon rush hour traffic the car suddenly loss acceleration. The car would not maintain speed (60 mph) while driving on the freeway. Had to exit freeway. The car continued to operate only at idle. Everything else was working, but could not get the car to respond to the throttle pedal. Was able to slowly exit and enter a parking lot. Restarted the car and was able to drive off normally. After a few minutes the problem reoccurred. The dealer had the car 4 different times (over a month total) and was not able to resolve the problem. The dealer indicated a $4000 cable harness assembly has to be replaced, but did not guarantee it will correct the problem. Throttle body, throttle position sensors have been replaced without results. The car did operate normal for over a month with new throttle body. After visiting the dealer for another issue the throttle problem reoccurred.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Cadillac STS

Failure Date: 11/29/2010

There was no previous indicator of a trouble condition--first indication of trouble was mis-firing---long story short---a complete engine over haul (rings, bearings etc. ) was made aware that these cars normally use 1 qt oil per 2000 miles---there is no warning for low oil level on the dash or dic other than remaining oil life, which was ok--an extended warranty covered the repairs the car had between 68k-69k miles and had been maintained as required by the dealership----.
