Body Problems of Cadillac XLR

The roof panel that was only attached with adhesive has detached from the frame of the car. This has also caused the retractable convertible top to stop working. I have read about the roof of many of these cars flying off while driving down the road. It is only a matter of time before this poor defect causes serious injury and/ or significant property damage. I called Cadillac customer service and they refused to offer any help. I recently spoke to a local body shop about getting it repaired and the estimate was upward of 1000 dollars.

Driving home and the roof came off. Didn't realize what had happened thought the seal was broken.

Will Cadillac do a recall on roof coming off as driving? cost me $759. 00 for the roof and $550. 00 for the vera the Cadillac dealer to install the roof and no recall on a $120,000. 00 dollar car I'm mad as hell.

My 2005 Cadillac Xlr was being towed to vera Cadillac dealership and the roof flew off the car 1g6yv34a255600993 why was this not a recall ? thank you joseph j verdecchia.

I broke down with a bad shifter cable so I called a tow truck 4 hr later he gets to the car, he puts on the tow truck and takes off for the vera Cadillac dealer. And the roof blue off came off the car and broke and Cadillac knew they had the problem but never recalled them now what do I do ?.

Was driving on interstate and top panel on convertible top flew off.

My roof panel is separating from the roof frame of my 04 Cadillac Xlr. If it come off it will cause property damage to another vehicle or death! it a gm defect that should be recall !!!! thanks!.

While driving on the florida turnpike suddenly there was a rush of air coming from the rearview mirror area. I stopped at the next service plaza and observed the front of the roof panel separating from the frame. Gm used a adhesive on these Xlr roofs that is failing now. Corvette roofs panels were recalled for this issue and failed adhesive, but gm has not recalled the Xlr yet. They opened a investigation at the end of September of 2018.

Convertible top has separated from the frame. Did not come completely off, but cannot drive car with top up (closed) as it will most likely detach at highway speeds.

Cadillac Xlr roof separation: I was driving a 2005 Cadillac Xlr south of I-75 when the roof suddenly, and quite unexpectedly separated at approximately 70 mph. I was driving in absolute terrible, rainy weather when the roof separated. Just before the separation I heard a very brief �road noise� sound come from just above the rear view mirror, at the roof line. It had a similar sound to a window being slightly cracked and allowing in air. The next thing I know, I hear a very loud bang and an abundance of wind noise. I immediately looked in my rear view mirror and saw a large black object going end-over-end across the I-75 lanes of traffic. The terrible weather may have been a blessing, as there was nobody close to my vehicle at the time of the separation. Due to the rain vehicles were quite spaced and travelling at, what I consider, relatively low speeds for I-75. I cannot imagine the carnage if that roof skin would have struck a vehicle traveling in proximity to myself. The corvette, which the Xlr is based off, had a very similar issue and was recalled. Why has this not been addressed? someone is going to get seriously injured or killed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Cadillac Xlr. The contact stated while driving at 35 mph, the roof panel flew off. No warning lights illuminated. The dealer: fields Cadillac jacksonville 7999 blanding blvd, jacksonville, FL 32244 who informed the contact to bring it in for repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and a case was file. Case number 8-42070007824. The mileage was 100,000. Hk.

Xlr roof flew off - very dangerous since the roof could kill someone.

Several Xlr owners have reported that their roof panel has separated and flown off the car at highway speeds. My top began emitting a whistling noise at highway speeds. When inspecting it, the center front of the top has begun to separate. These tops were apparently only glued as the only securement. Not mechanical methods were used. While mine has not totally separated, I have taken it to a body shop to get it re-secured. This is a serious safety issue and I am thankful I caught it before causing a serious issue. In the picture shown, there should be no gap between the front seal and the top at all. The attached pictures show the top beginning to separate. For reference, I have shown a top that totally separated to show the seriousness of this issue.

I driving freeway about 70mph, big air noise then roof panel come off & frying.

Automatic trunk mechanism would lift the trunk but immediately settle back to the closed and locked position. It nearly caught my fingers and I can see a small child losing fingers or having his/her head caught.

When driving I noticed a severe whistling sound coming from just above the rear view mirror. Upon inspecting, I noticed that the roof panel had a 8� section that had separated. When googled, I saw several people had reported that their Xlr's had a roof panel separate while driving. I immediately took it to a body shop and they re-glued the panel by injecting glue into the separation. I have no idea if this is a recommended solutionn by gm.

The retractable roof flew off while the car was moving. Gm offered no assistance with this and denied any negligence. Case #8-2866250293.
