Automatic Transmission problems of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

Six problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2008

The sun shell on my transmission broke taking out reverse 2nd and 4th gears. This is a common problem with gm transmissions. Its a 97 chevy 1500 z71 4x4.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2004

When driving with overdrive on consumer noticed that the overdrive switched to drive. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that transmission failed.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2003

While driving, the brake rotors failed. The center part of the rotor separated. Also the transmission, fuel pump and abs sensor was replaced.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

Transmission went out while consumer was driving. Has not contacted dealer.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2001

Consumer would stop vehicle and start again and transmsission would shift hard to second gear, consumer states it kicked, dealer stated that the problem was the shift actuator in the valve body assembly that's made of an alloy that does not expand/contract correctly within the assembly when hot.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2001

Consumer was traveling on highway and transmission went out without prior notice, and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. Transmisiion blew.
