Six problems related to windshield wiper/washer motor have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I own a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck VIN # 1gcec14w7vz150207. My wind shield wipers fail to work at various times. I've almost had to wrecks due to this problem. I called general motors and they told me my truck is not on the recall list, even though I have the recall problem with my wipers. Gm told me to have it fixed and to save my receipt for a future recall.
Wiper motor intermittently quits working. The wipers quit when raining or snowing causing zero visablility and the very high risk of crashing. There was a 2003 recall for a bad solder joint in the motor, but it only included vehicles with 70, 000 miles or less thus eliminating 95 percent of the 1997's on the road.
While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed. Recall 03v159000 was issued. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.
Windshield wipers fail to work properly, I received a letter shortly after noticing the problem I was having with the wipers and the letter stated that this problem could be fixed if I take the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealership "only if it was under 70,000 miles. Well I am around 72, and they are just now doing this. What 97' vehicle would not be around that kind of mileage by now. This is ridiculous and it should still be fixed under Chevrolet.
Windshield wipers just stop working after they are turned on, and sometimes they don't come on at all.
Windshield wipers will intermittently stop working, but once consumer gets out and taps on motor wipers will come back on.
