13 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 1998 Chevrolet truck is having the symtoms described in the recall for the 1999 thru 2002 recall due to corrosion affecting the antilock brakes. Recently my wife attempted to stop at a stop sign at a slow rate of speed (under 10 mph) and the brakes pulsed and groaned and she was unable to stop before the intersection. I am concerned that gm did not include 1998 as the braking system is virtually the same as the years recalled.
My anti-lock brakes on my 1998 Chevrolet silverado start to go into the anti-lock mode on dry pavement at slow speeds. This started on its own last January. I thought it was because of driving on winter roads in wisconsin, being snow covered and sometimes icy. However, this condition has continued through the spring, summer, and now fall. In fact, it is getting worse. It makes me feel like I won't be able to stop in time and maybe cause an accident. I'm waiting to see what gm is going to do regarding a recall that is in effect for this very problem in 14 states. Wisconsin is not included in this recall, but they should be. We are certainly in the "salt-belt. " and the recall should go back to 1996 because the anti-lock braking mechanism is similar from 1996-2002.
Low speed activation of abs. Vehicle will not stop at slow speed and the controller is running like mad.
While driving abs engaged. This caused the brake pedal to go to the floor. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
My anti-lock brakes began activating occasionally, then it became nearly everytime I use the brakes. I have had the brakes inspected and cleaned by mechanics who say they have fixed the problem. It always returns within minutes of leaving the shop. This began to happen in Feb. Of 2004. I have a 1998 silverado 1500 4x4 with front ant-ilock brakes. After seeing multiple recalls on chevy 1500 trucks, I wonder if mine has a 1999 system on it and it has been overlooked by the dealership?.
Numerous times, usually when it is snowing or wet pavement applies brake pressure and the brake goes all the way to the floor, engaging the abs, and the vehicle does not stop. Also, this happens on dry pavement. This occurs at low speeds with brake pressure and hits bumps. Took vehicle to the dealer, who could not duplicate the problem. No repairs were made.
While driving at low speed on dry pavement anti lock brakes will kick in,as if vehicle is driven on icy or snowy roads. Had to pump on brake pad. Had vehicle serviced, but problem reoccurred.
When applying brakes there is a clicking sound, pedal goes almost to floor, there is braking action, and increased braking distance. Dealer cannot remedy problem.
When putting on brakes vehicle will pull to the left.
Anytime when driving and applying brakes, the brakes pulsated, and ther eis very bad vibration . This happens all the time. Contacted dealer, put in new rotors.
When consumer applies the brakes the vehicle pulls to the right. -the shop repaired it, and now it pulls to the left.
Ongoing / intermittent problem braking system failing to operate whenever the vehicle rolls over bumpy surface. Dealer / manufacturer notified and informed cnsumer that nothing could be found, or could not duplicate the problem. Can NHTSA help in this matter or provide additional information.
Brakes stop at random. Sometimes they go half way to the floor, other times the pedal goes all the way to the floor. Dealer was contacted and the vehicle has been repaired eight times .
