Three problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet 1500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving I hit a bump and heard a weird clunk noise. When I got home I went under the vehicle and discovered a small crack in the left frame bar near the back of the cab. The underneath of this truck has been a rusty mess for a few years now despite regular washing to remove salt etc. From driving in pennsylvania in the winter. Had to replace brake lines for the same reason, rust.
Toke my 1999 chevy ext cab in for service. Put it on the lift for an oil change and the frame cracked. Notified gm and they told me to take it to a dealer and when I asked them who was paying the bill they told me I was. Unable to fix it because they don't allow welding on the frame in this state. I asked them if they were going to do anything about it and was told they would get in touch with management and let them know of the problem. Never got it fixed because of the price tag to do it I am going to run it to the junk yard to get read of it. I have know other people with the same problem but never any recalls. Please let people know not to buy gms because they are all junk and gm want fix the problem with them.
Purchased wind deflectors for front and passenger windows for Chevrolet suburban 1999 LS from mcneil automotive products, 1 mcneil court, bolingbrook, IL 60440 (phone 1-630-769-1500, fax 1-630-769-0300). Front right window deflector separated from car after a month of driving and crashing to the ground missing the motorcyclist behind me. Shipped 1/27/13 installed week of 2/4/13 drove at speeds up to 80 mph on ih 130 with windows closed and up to 55 mph with windows open or cracked. Weather was good during that period in central texas for driving with open windows. Right front wind deflector departed car 3/8/13 on mopac south access road just north of duval. I was in the right lane and luckily the deflector fell on the curb and gutter and did not hit the motorcycle behind me. Removed the left front wind deflector for safety. Complianed to mcneil automotive products on 4/5/2013 via phone. Connection was not clear, believe the persons first name was aviania. She claimed that I had not installed the part correctly. I countered that the part would not have survived a month on the window at the speeds it was subjected to if not installed correctly. She indicated that they would send me new front window deflectors, they never arrived. That was probably because I made it crystal clear that I was going to complain to you if it happened again.
