Other Fuel System Fuel Gauge problems of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

My gas gauge will take a dive to empty and the light also comes on. This is an on again off again problem. The dealer says it will cost six to seven hundred dollars to fix. I was wondering if there had been other complaints of this nature.

1. Fuel gauge does not register 80% of the time. After filling up fuel tank the " low fuel light comes on and the fuel needle points back to empty. The fuel needle will start working better after I have burned 1/2 a tank of fuel. I have 4 friends that all have the same truck and all of their trucks do the same thing 2. Heated mirror on drivers side quit working.
