general problems of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

The break lines on my 2001 chevy silverado failed causing me to have to replace all of them. They rusted through.

Coming back from store ,went to turn in driveway to house no brakes ran off in grass and creek. Front and back brakes both leaking and rusted bad. Had this truck since 07 and taken care of . Can not afford to pay what shop wants to fix. Gm needs recall trucks with this problem before someone gets bad hurt or killed.

Abs activation on dry pavement at low speed and this happens consistently. This causes vehicle to travel further instead of stopping. Sometimes feathering the brake pedal can keep abs from activating. I have read countless articles about this problem with many other Chevrolet pickups.

Second time I lost all brakes in this vehicle. Lost all brakes due to rotted lines.

While driving down a two lane highway, the vehicle in front of me applied his brakes for a disabled vehicle in the roadway. I began to press mine when they went straight to the floorboard. I began to pump the brakes quickly hoping the system would send fluid to the other set which it did not. In order to prevent impacting the vehicle in front of me or the disabled vehicle, I had to send the vehicle across oncoming traffic, launch over a roadside ditch and come to a stop in a corn field. The failure was a pinhole blowout under the drivers side door where the brake were completely rusted through.

I was traveling south on high st. In cortland ohio, and went to apply the brakes to stop for a light, the peddle went to the floor. I averted an accident by steering left and appling the emergancy brake.

Making a left hand turn after a stop lite put my foot on my brake pedal and it went to the floor, almost hit car in front of me, stopped and saw my rear driver side line leaking.

Brake pedal vibrates and buzzes. Brakes do not engage. Vehicle was recalled and repaired for this before, and now it is doing it again, several years later.

My 16 yr old son drove thru an intersection with no brakes. Just avoiding an accident. I know 4 other people that own the same kind of vehical with the exact same problem. I will be contacting them so they can also fill this complaint out. Do people have to die to get this mess fixed up ??????????.

The brakes went out - not totally out I but had to push the breaks all the way to the floor to get the car to slowly stop. I had very little stopping power. Shortly thereafter (3- 4 minutes later ) the instrument break warning light came on. Had I been going any faster I would have surely been in a serious accident. The car was towed to a Chevrolet dealer. They discovered a leaking break line. They indicated that it was a result of excesssive rust in the break line. The warning light should have come on much sooner and the break line should not have rusted through. $3,000 later, it was fixed.

Rusting fuel line caused a significant fuel leak in the rear of the vehicle near the fuel tank, while repairing that line I observed several other rusting lines in that area brake, and more fuel lines.
