1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

I was lucky to see a spot of fluid on my driveway. Figured it was brake fluid so I had my wife pump the brakes while I looked for the leak. When she pushed down hard the line busted and I lost about all my brake fluid. I've inspected my lines and they are all rusted. I have the truck in the shop now to replace all brake lines. Only 127000 miles on the truck.

2 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2015

Brake lines rust out completely.

3 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2015

Leak under drivers door just had oil changed so thought it was oil filter not tightened , took it back to oil change place and they said it was the brake line and that he was surprised it hasn't busted already. Husband drove it home and and got half mile from home and they burst and he had to down shift to get the truck to slow down to turn and park it. This should of been recalled long time ago . Might of killed my husband or someone else. Who thinks to have the brake lines looked at .

4 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

Went out to leave in my truck and as I was backing out of the driveway the brake line broke. Thankfully no one was coming down the road.

5 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

Trying to stop rusted brake line blew avoided accident by using parking brake.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

Brake lines corrosion and leaking.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2015

I was getting ready to leave work and as I rolled towards the stop sign I attempted to brake but the pedal went straight to the floor. I rolled through the stop sign and into the next lane, fortunately there were no other vehicles at the time. When I exited the vehicle I immediately saw the trail of brake fluid and under closer inspection I could see where not one but two lines had ruptured at once. I was leaving to pick up my son from daycare and it is terrible to think that he could have been there and it may have been a busier intersection. Gm claims brake lines fall under routine maintenance but I don't understand which routine they mean. No gm tech or inspector has ever mentioned rusty brake lines. If they want to make the consumer responsible maybe they should train responsible technicians.

8 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2015

I was backing out of my driveway and noticed a fluid puddle in the spot where it was parked. Upon investigating,it has been determined that one of the front brake lines has ruptured. After further inspection, all brake lines are severely corroded and soon to accompany the ruptured line. I'm displeased that such a valuable safety aspect of my vehicle has been compromised by general motors. I feel that general motors should be responsible for such a dangerous situation. I have owned many vehicles in my 18 years of driving that were older and had more miles that had shown no signs of such failure. This is not normal.

9 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

I was starting up my 2003 chevy silverado this morning to go to work when the brake pedal quickly went to the floor board. After rolling backwards for a little I was able to stop the truck. After this happened I received the "service brake system" message on the control cluster. Looking outside the vehicle, I could tell a brake line had broken or had a significant leak as there was a puddle by the front passenger axle. I am waiting for a tow truck and have missed at least a half day of work. Reading through the website reports, I am expecting a large bill from the rusted brake line repairs that seem to be common in this chevy vehicle. Being in the military my truck has been driven in a number of states, but not in any northern states or on salted roads. I understand that no recall has been issued to date by chevy.

10 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

Earlier this year had monroe muffler and brakes repair a brake line. Last week a second line rusted through. Pep boys stated three lines needed replacement.

11 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

Had been duck hunting with my grandsons pulled into my driveway and started backing my truck into garage with boat attached and brake pedal went to floor. At that point I had no brakes at all. Had to push parking brake to stop truck. When I got out I saw puddle of liquid on driveway ( brake fluid) . I looked under truck and saw that the brake line under the drivers floor area is rusted and blew out. I just thank god that it happened when it did and not as my grandsons and I was going down highway. I got on internet and I see that there is many other people haveing same issue with brake lines on chevy trucks. I just must ask how many people have to get hurt or die before gm fixs this problem???? I think it is time for them to step up and take care of this . . .

12 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2014

Applied the brakes and the brake pedal went all the way down and vehicle wouldn't stop, it leaked all the break fluid, brake lines rusted.

13 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

While driving at 45 mph I applied pressure to brake pedal in order to stop for slowing traffic. The pedal went all the way to the floor and the vehicle failed to stop as it normally would. I was able to steer toward the shoulder of the roadway to avoid a rear end collision with the vehicle in front of me. Inspection of the truck revealed severely corroded brake lines where a failure of the brake line resulted in complete brake failure and loss of brake system pressure. Corrosion of the brake lines and associated hardware far surpasses the level of corrosion of other parts on the underside of the truck.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

While driving lost brakes , pedal went right to the floor . Had to apply emergency brakes to stop. Brake line blew .

15 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

Going out of drive brake pedal went to floor. Later turned out to be a brake line ruptured from being corroded. Truck rolled backwards and struck a tree causing minor damage to the bumper. Not reported to insurance because deductible higher than damage. This failure of the break line happened once before in 10/2009. Luckily no injuries but the number of these incidents point to a hazardous flaw that gm should address.

16 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2014

I applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign in a parking lot. The brake pedal went to the floor. I went through the stop sign. Another vehicle had to slam on its brakes to avoid hitting me. The emergency brake is useless for stopping the vehicle in this type of situation because its foot pedal is positioned so high you cannot step on it in time. The problem was caused by failure of a rusted through steel brake line that ran from the abs module to the rear of the vehicle. It provided the hydraulic pressure for both rear brakes. The point where it rusted through is above the gas tank cover and not visible for inspection. I realize that the truck is 11 years old and has been used in the northeast but it does not have any serious body rust and has received reasonable care. It also has relatively low mileage. The "dual diagonal brake system" did not function to provide adequate braking action. It provided no noticeable braking action. This is about as serious a safety defect as I can imagine. I am lucky it happened at low speed and I was not involved in a collision.

17 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2014

I was approaching MD highway 97 on nicodemus road when I depressed the brake pedal, which went to the floor with no braking effect. Fortunately no vehicle was coming as I could not stop. The parking brake was insufficent for stopping the truck. I finally had to put the transmission in reverse to stop. One of the brake lines near the abs unit had burst due to rust. All of the lines at that location were rusty. I replaced all lines with stainless steel lines from an after-market supplier. I see that the fuel lines near that location are also rusty and will need to be replaced.

18 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

I was getting ready to stop at a red light when the brakes on the truck failed. The pedal went straight to the floor when pressed. After parking the truck and looking at the brake line (metal line) above the rear-end had rusted causing the tube to weaken and crack.

19 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

Driving truck out of parking area at house entering street and both brake lines supply to abs broke. This left me with no brakes to front or back. Just enough brake fluid to slow down to make the turn back into parking area behind my house. Had to use parking brake to fully stop truck. Called for a flat bed truck to haul my truck to local auto shop to have brakes repaired. The whole brake system lines had to be replaced ,corrosion problem !. $1000 brake line repair. Could have been a very dangerous time if I was on the busy street one more block farther in my travel. Second time brake line broke on this truck. ^ months ago replaced one line on back brake, same problem. Now lines under drivers cab both broke under pedal stress. This should never happen on both lines. Had many other trucks and cars and never saw such poor quality brake lines. If this happened on highway I may not be able to tell about it. Wife was in truck also and pulling a 14ft boat. Any damages or bodily injury would be put on gm and their faulty product selection of brake lines. Should be a recall years ago. Thousands of gm truck owners have problems. Members of my family have had same brake line problems. Only 70,000 miles on truck.

20 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Made a semi-hard stop, due to a car pulling in front, brake line failed. There were no brakes at all the rest of the way home. My 15 year old son was driving, this could have very easily been a horrible accident.

21 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2014

Luckily we were pulling out of the driveway when the brakes went out on the truck. Went all the way to the floor. If this had happened a week earlier while we (my family of 4) were traveling on rt 70 hauling a golf cart we and/or another family may have suffered severely or possibly died because of rusty, corroded brake lines. We live in maryland, have service at local chevy dealer and maintain our vehicles which includes washing/cleaning the vehicle, so there is no reason that at 107000 miles the brake lines should have corroded. Our estimate for repair of brakes/brake lines is 1681. 00. We will get the vehicle fixed but after reading other reports about chevy trucks and brakes I thought it would be a good idea to send in my complaint. Luckily no lives were lost but gm should consider a recall before they get slapped with law suits.

22 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

On wed, June 25th approximately 11:30 pm I had to stop quickly due a stop light changing on me and I felt my brake pedal get "squishy" when trying to stop. I verified this when I tried stopping at the next light and the pedal sunk even further and it took even longer to stop. By the time I got home my brakes were about useless for any speed over an idle as the pedal went all the way to the floorboards when pressed. Luckily it was late at night and there were very few cars on the road, so I did not need to stop quickly. I then looked under my truck and found both of the brake lines heavily corroded/rusted in a spot just behind my front driver's side wheel. I had my wife press on the brake pedal while I was watching the lines and at least one of them had blown open and was squirting fluid. I subsequently had to get my truck towed to my mechanic as it was not drive-able. And to top it all off, the required parts had to be ordered directly from the dealer increasing my repair bill. And after talking with my mechanic, he stated that when he called the dealer for the parts, they knew exactly what was needed as they have had to do these same repairs numerous times. Luckily this did not happen while my daughter was using my truck to haul her horses around as I do not think she would have been able to stop at all with that extra weight behind her trailer brakes or not.

23 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Driving on i271 northbound, heading to 77n, left lane of highway. The weather was clear, the road was dry. I was doing 70 -72 mph. Speed limit on 271 is 70. Driver in right lane suddenly decided to switch to left lane, cutting immediately in front of car in front of me. Driver in front of me slammed on her brakes very hard. I also had to hit brakes, but not quite as hard, as I had some space. As I hit the brakes, they immediately went to the floor. The only choice I had to avoid slamming into her, was swerve left into the median, all the while pumping the brakes hoping for something. But there was nothing. I managed to keep the truck from fishtailing in the grass, straightened out, passed the woman who I almost rear ended, and thankfully was able to get back on the highway, but still no brakes. I eventually got to the side of the road, and coasted to a stop. I was very lucky---there was road construction coming up with signs in the median, and traffic barrels in the road, and this all happened within a mile of that area. Had my truck towed to firestone, and they told me both brake lines going to the abs unit blew out. If gm wants to save money by using cheap material, it should be on non safety related parts, not something as serious as brake components. As the average age of most vehicles on the road today is 10 yrs. , car manufacturers should be forced to manufacture or use parts, esp. , parts as brakes, that will last a lot longer than that.

24 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

Was leaving store near my home and brake pedal went completely to floor no brakes what so ever drove home using emergency brake on inspection found leaking brake line in rear of truck then inspected all other lines and found them very rusted as well they need to be replaced before they leak.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2014

Slowly losing brakes soft brake pedal no warning light. Drove to dealer, told me rusty leaking brake lines ' would cost me $991. 00 to replace all brake lines. I told them I could not pay that, I ask about a recall with no avail, they let me drive it home, by the time I got there I had no brakes at all, the light finally came. I am the orginal owner. I can not drive this truck, it will have to be towed to dealer service dept. Now.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

While driving home on 5/1/2014 traffic stopped short. I hit the brakes to stop. The truck stopped ok. Traveled about another 2 blocks and when I hit the brake pedel to stop. It went to the floor and I ad no brakes. I hit the back of another car due to not being able to stop, after the truck was towed to repair shop it was found to have rusted, broken brake line. I applied brakes coming up to a red light. Vehicle did not stop and pedal pushed to the floor. Applied e-brake to stop and resumed to repair shop on other side of lights. Found brake line had pin holes.

32 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

A brake line ruptured, seriously impairing the braking. This happened on a day that ice was on the road, increasing the possibility of an accident. The brake line was replaced, and others inspected and deemed safe. On October 3, 2014, another brake line ruptured. This happened while at low speed. No accident or damage occurred. I will have this ruptured line replaced along with all other original brake lines. Last gm product I will buy in my lifetime.

33 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2013

While attempting to stop in front of a store my brake pedal went to the floor I shifted into park to avoid hitting the person in the crosswalk. My truck was towed to the dealer and I was told all brake lines were completely rusted the gm rep told me it was an old truck with many miles as a retired gm employee and a licensed mechanic I have driven many older cars and never seen this kind of rusted out brake lines . Will it take a few deaths and lawsuits before owners of these trucks are warned?.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

The brake pedal was depressed and the pedal went to the floor. I was able to get the truck back to my house. Looking under the drivers side rear wheel, brake fluid could be seen dripping from a brake line.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

The brakes began failing as we were driving to work. My wife carefully drove the truck straight to the repair shop and barely managed to stop it. Mechanic reported that several brake lines were leaking due to corrosion. That's not surprising considering everything underneath the chassis is corroding rapidly. Most corrosion prone vehicle I've owned in 25 years. This vehicle should have been recalled for corrosion and electrical problems which I'm constantly dealing with.
