Chevrolet 1500 owners have reported 4 problems related to air brake wheel speed sensor (under the air brake category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The brakes on the t ruck are not right. They work okay but when you are going about 5 miles per hour and hit the brake, the abs comes on makes a grating noise that you can both feel and hear. I have had everything checked and this is what is the problem. When this problem occurs it takes longer to stop than normal. The noisie is also kind of scary. I have had to put new rotors on the f ront of the t ruck and both rotors and pads on the back. All of them were rusted and pitted. The truck only has about 26,000 miles on it and it doesn't get hard use.

I am having the same problem with my brakes on my 1998 Chevrolet silverado! I am also getting the same growling sound when you apply the brakes. The problem doesn't occur every time you apply the brakes. This problem started this spring, I think that it is a corrosion problem that is occuring in years 1999-2002. Thank you.

At about 55,900 miles, the abs on my pickup truck began comming on at about 5 to 8 mph when braking on dry pavement. This increased stopping distance when braking and led to my wife crashing into a steel pole barrier in a parking lot and destroying the front bumper.
When vehicle decreases in speed to 3mph wheel speed senosor drops off, and anti lock brakes kick in, leaving vehicle with less to no brakes. Contacted dealer and they did not know which sensor it was.
