1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 07/22/2015

On July 22, 2015 I was driving my 2004 chevy silverado 1500 and when I went to stop at an intersection the brakes failed and I had go through a stop sign. I had to hit the emergency brake to get the truck stopped. I was lucky it happened in a housing sub division and not on an interstate because someone could have been killed. I was close to my mechanics garage and was able to get it into the garage where I was informed that all of my brake lines were completely corroded and rusted through he also informed me that a brake caliper needed replaced due to all of the brake line corrosion. The mechanic also informed me that all the fuel lines were corroded and also needed replaced. The mechanic told me he has replaced brake lines on several silverado's all due to corrosion. This truck only has 65,665 miles on it and was seldom driven in snow. I'm not sure why there is not a recall on these trucks. If my wife or one of my kids was driving this the outcome could have been different. The total cost was over $1400. 00 to get all of the lines replaced something needs to be done before someone gets killed.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

I've had to replace calipers, rotors, brake lines the have rusted, brakes hoses that have gone bad and this vehicle is well kept and inside. Low miles for a 2002 and yet all at once everything went bad including my fuel sensor for the gas guage.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Luckily I was pulling in my driveway when I found out my brakes had gone because they had rusted through not long after my gas was pouring out cause the fuel lines rusted and now chances are I wont get an inspection sticker this coming year because my frame is rusted out.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

While attempting to shift from third to fourth the engine appeared to have a stuck throttle cable. Pulled the truck safely off the road and check the throttle cable making sure it was not broken or kinked. I restarted the truck and the rpms at idol were at 2000 and then I placed the truck into first gear and began to move forward towards my home. As I shifted from 1 to second the rpms began to rise. As I placed the truck into neutral the engine continued to increase in rpms to 3000 and then onto 4000. I placed the truck in neutral and allow the motion of the engine to push the truck forward and using the brakes I was able to keep speeds below 45 and when the truck came to a complete stop the engine rpms continued to rise above 4000. After getting the truck home and inspection of the throttle body, a half cup movable plate was found attached to the butterfly. . This had prevented the butterfly to close and had torn from the butterfly plate. I have not found any documentation on this plate or cup on any sites nor is it mentioned in any owner manuals. I was lucky, but others who are not mechanically inclined may not know what to do or even an increase chance of an accident which could result in a death or injury.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

On multiple occasions the vehicle has lost power at highway speed and the engine dies. After a few attempts the engine restarts and operates normally for an unpredictable interval. This has happened at least 10 times. The authorized dealer and other mechanic shops have not been able to diagnose the reason for the power failure as they have not been able to cause it to duplicate failure when they have it. This sudden unexpected condition is very dangerous when it occurs and renders the vehicle unusable for anything other than short usage.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/04/2014

The bolts are broken off in the manifold, after checking you-tube I found this is a problem the gm has chosen to ignore.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 1993 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

Vehicle did not decellerate from highway speed, excessive braking was required to stop. Engine idle speed was approximately 3 times the normal idle speed when the vehicle was stopped.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

While leaving my driveway I went to stop , pedal went to floor, car almost had accident with oncoming snow plow truck. Even though vehicle has low mileage dealer said warranty was up. Front brake lines were rusted through. Had them replaced. Just recently I checked under vehicle & it appears the same is happening to the rear brake lines & fuel lines. Rossi chev. My dealer told me this is a common problem. Something is not right with this very dangerous problem.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

On 09/10/13, 1:45 pm, I was driving east on s. R. 73 near I-75 intersection. As I approached the intersection traveling approximately 35 mph, the light changed to yellow. I braked somewhat hard and the brake pedal went to the floor board. There was no braking control at all and I proceeded through the red signal. Approximately 500 feet after going through the intersection I managed to stop in the median. Fortunately, although traffic was heavy, no contact occurred. Immediate inspection revealed a brake line rusted through. I trailered the truck to a Chevrolet dealer who found not only "all" the brake lines were dangerously rusted, but the gas lines also were dangerously rusted. The dealer stated this was a common occurrence with Chevrolet silverado. Replacement of these items required removing the truck bed which revealed the brake rotor backing plates rusted "away. " severe frame and component rust was also found. Only repaired brake and gas lines. Cost, $1,765. 11 OH, by the way, the "service brake system" warning light came on after brake failure.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

While driving on a residential street I attempted to apply the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. After about 20 feet the truck did stop with the brake pedal almost on the floor. The truck had to be towed and the front brake lines where rusted and leaking and replaced. The rear lines are also rusted and need to be replaced. The total cost is about $500. 00. I have had to replace the fule line as it also rusted and leaked, that cost was $900. 00. Apparently gm has had numerous problems with this. In over 40 years I have never seen lines rust through like this. It is a seroius problem and could have resulted in a major accident if the area had been more congested and speed greater. Gm should be putting quality material on such a vital system. Also the rear brakes where almost non-existent due to the gm abs design. This gives no braking ability and should not be that way. As far as safety goes this should be a number one issue as brake failure can be letal, gas leaking isnt very safe either.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

The fuel line supplying the engine fuel rail ruptured due to excessive corrosion because of the location it is in and fuel was spraying out underneath the truck,. Dangerously close to the hot catalytic converter. The defective fuel line is an extremely difficult repair, due to having to remove the bed/cab for replacement and access to it. The fuel and brake lines are improperly routed from the factory, causiong premature failure due to corrosion and salt damage. In my opinion, there should be a recall and this inherently dangerous problem rectified. The brake lines on this same truck failed from corrosion two years ago. Same scenario, improper routing causing excessive and premature failure from rust and corrosion due to the location they are in.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

Vehicle will suddenly decrease power and the message "engine power reduced" shows on message display. First time was 9/8/2012. Last time was Feb 24, 2015. Has done this at 25 mph on a city street, 35 mph city street twice, and 55 mph on highway. Supposedly repaired three times. Am afraid to use vehicle as usually tow 5th wheel and do not want it to do this while towing.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

While driving at 45 mph, my brake light came on. I immediately started to pull over and noticed that I felt less pressure on brake pedal. I was able stop the vehicle, but notice no puddles. Resumed drive home. Check fluid reservoir, fluid almost gone. Filled reservoir and pumped brakes back up. Noticed some drips in driveway. Also noticed slight gas smell. Took vehicle to mechanic and he determined that not only was the brake line rotted, the gas lines were rotting out as well. The areas that were rotted the most is right where the support brackets are. These were underneath driver side door, headed up into engine compartment. Lines were replaced with stainless steel lines to prevent from happening further.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Fuel level indicator stopped working. Very common problem with this vehicle.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 04/15/2005

After putting truck in gear (auto) the gas pedal wil occasionally not depress without force. This leads to a sudden burst of speed while truck is in gear. Dealer reccommends a $100 throttle body cleaning. If a critical area is getting dirty, isn't that a design flaw that should be fixed by manufacturer? repair "how to" websites talk about cleaning and plugging a hole that lets in dirt.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2001 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

I purchased new a 2001 silverado pick-up. I've had to replace the fuel level sensor@ 48000 miles, tailgate straps@ 65000 miles, and now electric window motor/regulator@ 80000 miles. I've tried to work with gm about the problems and possible reenbursment for these repairs as well as my local dealership. I don't believe after paying over 30k for a new vehicle, gm will not back their products or share in the cost of replacing these overpriced parts. Is there anything that I can do?.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 07/01/2000

Gas gauge malfunctioned and went out which did not indicate the actual fuel reading. Also, when backing up vehicle was making a noise, contacted mechanic. Mechanic said probably there wasn't any grease put in at factory resulting in the universal joints were dry and rusted. Universal joints were replaced.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2000 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 10/15/1999

This truck has had issues since I first purchased it. Brakes would not stop the truck in a safe distance which ended up with me having an accident with it. The brake line rusted out after less than 100,000 miles and needed to replace them all. Now with 173,000 miles the gas lines are leaking and the frame is rusted so bad that it cannot be put up on a lift to fix the brake lines.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 06/29/1999

Fuel indicator failed causing the needle to read full when it is empty causing the drivers vehicle to stall/run out of gas in traffic. Nlm.

20 Other Fuel System problem of the 1997 Chevrolet 1500

Failure Date: 03/09/1998
