Chevrolet 1500 owners have reported 10 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I pulled into driveway and put car in park, left engine running. Went to door of residence to get my kids. Kids went out to the car and were yelling fire! I seen the inside up in smoke. I reached inside to turn engine off. We then started pouring buckets of water into seat and on floor around the seat to try to prevent spread of the fire. I luckily put the fire out. Fire dept unhooked battery and removed melted plastic around seat. It seems a wire somehow shorted out beneath seat and caught the seat and floor on fire.

Manual drivers seat adjuster/lock failed allowing driver to be slammed into steering wheel on braking. Seat would not lock in any position and would slam to the rear of the adjustment rails with slightest acceleration. This created a completely unstable platform from which to drive and presents an extremely unsafe situation if/when the vehicle is used. I have gone online to research this situation and found that there have been large numbers of similar complaints, some with accidents resulting from the situation. I have also learned that the problem is a plastic part in the locking mechanism which breaks/fails. Some have reported that the vehicle owners must pay $400. 00 or so to get the necessary repairs. I am an 86 year old original owner of this vehicle and feel that, because of the severe safety hazard caused by this situation, this should have been a recall repair and not an out of pocket expense for any owner. My son, who is visiting from oregon, is going to try to get my pickup to the nearest gm dealership on Monday, 25 November for necessary repairs, as, in its current condition, it is totally unsafe for me to drive. I would appreciate the NHTSA addressing this situation and requiring gm to issue a recall due to the hazard involved.

The transmission in this vehicle is a total piece of junk. There are many, many vehicles with this same transmission. It locked up slinging the driver into the steering wheel and windshield. This broke the bolts holding the seat to the frame. The cost to fix was over 1200 dollars. I've talked with several transmission shops, each one is in business due to the fact that this transmission is defective. They repair or replace more of these than all other times 400. It appears that this problem has been a problem since first being used. It also appears that no one is being held accountable for the repairs and/or deaths, injury that is being caused by this defective unit. It's oindtalled in millions of vehicles worldwide. When is something going to be done ? when is someone going to be held accountable ? stop this madness, please ! the time it's taked me to fill out the form, dozens of people were injured due to the above statement.
