One problem related to side/window air bag has been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet 2500. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On Thursday, August 6, 2015 at approximately 1:20 pm natchez railway employees [xxx] were attempting to start vehicle #1828 which was being stored on the grounds of the natchez depot. Vehicle #1828 is a 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck with VIN #[xxx] and had been driven from the grenada railway approximately three weeks prior. [xxx] was sitting in the driver¿s seat and the battery appeared to be dead. When he pulled the hood release latch, the passenger side air bag activated with a large bang and the cab of the truck was filled with a white powder. [xxx] suffered a slight ringing in the ears from the noise. A check with the general motors website indicates this vehicle is not subject to any recalls, especially for defective airbags. At the time of the incident, the air temperature was approximately 95⁰ f with 60% humidity. The vehicle has been parked for over two weeks with the doors and windows closed.
