The frame on our truck has completely begun to rust out. Gm has a TSB to repair the frames on 2011-2013 Avalanches but this should extend to other model years as well as it's the same issue that gm is already aware of.
The chrome on the passenger side front door handle has begun to peel and is very sharp. A passenger cut their hand on the handle last week. I have since had to cut a portion of the chrome off and apply tape over the handle to prevent this from happening again.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated upon purchasing the vehicle at the used car dealer, he noticed that the dashboard of the vehicle was cracked and the crack was extending towards the front passenger's side air bag location. There was no warning light illuminated. The used dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that it was a known failure; however the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure had become significantly worse. The contact contacted an unknown Chevrolet dealer to inquire the cost of a dashboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that cracks had developed in the hard plastic dashboard. The cracks were on the passenger side of the dashboard near the location of the air bag. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 55,000.
Galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metal (aluminum and steel) components in the manufacturer's installed bed cover system is causing the latching mechanisms for the bed cover to disintegrate and cease to function as designed. The bed cover panels can no longer be reliably latched and are subject to breaking free from the vehicle during transit. A bed cover panel that departs the vehicle due to latch failure would be a substantial roadway hazard. There is no way isolate the dissimilar metals to stop the corrosion.
Door locks on both driver and passenger side does not work with remote or with vehicle in drive.
Dash board/instrument panel cracked and separated from mounting clips dy air bag and over instrument cluster. Extremely likely flying object injury possible in any speed accident. This is the second dash in this truck to have the same problem. The first dash was replaced under warranty.
My 2008 Avalanche with 72,000 miles on it, is completely rotting away underneath. Ive had to replace many parts, shocks, autoride compressor, fuel pump module, had body rust repaired, have had 3 door handles fall right off. . Last 2 mechanics told me that all parts located underneath truck are rotting away and that I need to get rid of truck because it is not worth repairing. I have tried to work with gm but they claim that its normal wear and tear. Paid 30k for truck Dec 2011. Have membership to car wash, and keep it very clean. Undercarriage included. Cant get my service suspension light to shut off, even the dealer cant. This truck should not be rotting away the way it is. . Please help.
My 79 year old wife badly cut her finger while opening the door of our vehicle. The door handle of my vehicle is plated in chrome. This chrome is now coming undone, and is razor sharp. Today the last of the 4 door handles broke due to defect on the handles themselves. Gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue. If a vehicle is involved in an accident. The passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury , the door handles could break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them. . This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it. Recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt! I am on high doses of coumadin and if it were my finger I could have bleed to death. Get this recalled please.
The plating on the interior door handle is peeling to the point where it is cutting my finger each time I open the door.
Ltz chrome door handles broke on both passenger side doors due to defect on the handles themselves. Gm states that these are trim and not considered mechanical (even though they perform a mechanical function) so they aren't recalling them even though this issue is widespread and is a safety issue. In the event a vehicle is involved in an accident and the passengers inside are unconscious or unable to open the door themselves due to injury - this poses a problem if the door handles break as a firefighter or other person from the outside tries to open them. They seriously break that easy - two in the same week. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen and gm knows about this problem they are choosing to ignore it. Recall and replace these door handles with ones that can actually open the door before someone gets hurt!.
Presently three of my 2008 chevy Avalanche ltz door handles have broken off. I have no kids and no excessive usage of the back two doors but they broke the worse. The GMC repair shop explained that most of these door handles brake off in the winter. Therefore, I'd say this is a known defect. When you pay almost 50k for a new truck and within 4 years you are driving a vehicle with only one door handle that is pathetic. I will never buy another GMC chevy and I will never recommend a chevy Avalanche. There are multiple other defects with this truck as well. This is not a quality made vehicle.
Electronic door locks have failed on three of the 4 doors on this car. The neither the key fob or the door mounted locking switch will toggle them between locked and unlocked position. You can hear the actuator trying to work but their is something wrong with the linkage preventing this. This is a major in convenience, as well as a potential safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the chrome on the interior passenger and driver side door handles were deteriorating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who did not provide an explanation for the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 37,000. Consumer cancelled complaint 04/13/2012.
At present 3 outside door handles are broken & may be pulled off at any time. These are: rt front pass. , rt rear pass. & left rear pass. Doors. This represents an expense to me of $450 or $500. I, or previous owner, have replaced 3 door handles: rt front pass. , under warranty; left rear 13 Jul 2010, $124; & driver's door 23 Apr 2013, $155. Local chevy service dept said reason for this failure is likely because handles are made of plastic, not metal; but they can't repair for free because gm doesn't acknowledge responsibility. I have owned many gm products in my 75 years, but I think this will be my last because quality of their vehicles sucks like an egg-sucking dog and, like the dog, it seems to be endemic.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated the front exterior driver's side door and both rear doors failed to unlatch when accessing with the key fob. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who informed that the failure was contributed to the faulty door lock actuator. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Js.
