Four problems related to dashboard crack have been reported for the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The dashboard is cracked in several places and flexes large amounts during normal in town driving conditions. There are sharp edges that concern me if we were involved in any type of accident. The vehicle has been well cared for and never abused in any way. The cracks continue to worsen and are apparently from the lack of reinforcement or materials defect in the dash itself but the direct cause is unknown to me.
Dashboard and vent cover cracking in multiple places causing rattling and possible safety issue due to flying debris in an auto accident.
I have the same safety concern many other owners are having. My dashboard is cracked in multiple spots, mainly around the airbag and instrument cluster. I believe this would affect the airbag from deploying properly or send sharp pieces of the dashboard into the cabin if impacted. I have contacted gm several times with zero assistance or concern on their part.
Got in to my car that morning and heard a rattling noise coming from my dash and came to find out my dash was cracked. I do nothing but highway driving so there were no extenuating circumstances to cause it. I take great care of my vehicles and have never had this happen before. I researched the problem and have come to find out that it is a chevy issue that is not being disclosed or are they taking responsibility there are a number of websites with chevy truck owners who have the same problem. I believe this needs to be addressed by your organization on the behalf of the thousands of chevy truck owners who need the issue rectified .
