56 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Large crack on the dashboard while park.
Dashboard is cracking at passenger side airbag.
Dashboard has cracked in a couple of places, similar to many others with this vehicle type. One crack is just above the steering wheel, the other is behind the passenger side airbag. Worried this may be a safety issue if airbag is deployed. With as many complaints, photos, and documented cases, this should be repaired by gm.
Dashboard has cracked into multiple pieces around and behind the instrument cluster and near the airbag. Numerous calls with chevy have failed to resolve the problem and chevy refuses to guarantee, in writing, that the airbag will still discharge properly in an accident and remain seated properly and that the radio will not dislodge from the dash. This vehicle is well maintained and has approximately 51k miles on it. This is a huge safety concern and is a common issue with all vehicles with the same dash made from 2009-2013. Chevy has acknowledged this is an issue yet refuses to repair or replace unless they are forced to in a recall.
Dashboard cracked for no apparent reason could be a safety issue if the air bags happen to deploy. I have also read that this issue happens to these series trucks and if it is a manufactures defect gm should be required to replace them. Thanks, andrew.
My dash keeps cracking, I had it replaced once in 2015 and now 2020 (been cracked for 3 years now) both pieces are all cracked with hole in the center of dash. Seems like the sun dries out the place where it screws in. The screws/bolts fall off and dash just bounces all over anda starts cracking. Call the same dealership to have it redone. They told me $350 plus labor.
Dashboard cracking (major) next to airbag and instrument cluster.
Cracked dash. . . . Dash cracked setting in my parking lot. It presents a clear safety concern if the airbag deploys.
Dash is cracked around the air bag area.
Cracked dashed board part gm #19331336 panel. Cracked driver side and on passenger side near airbag. Local chevy dealer will only replace for parts and labor fee. Unkown cause of crack.
Cracked dash near passenger air bag that could cause shards of plastic to be projected during crash.
I bought my 2011 Avalanche at the end of 2011. The dash has developed two huge cracks that run all the way through to the seam in two places. It seems to be free floating on the dash board. This makes for terrible noise while driving besides seemingly being unsafe. I am not sure what is under that section on the dash but I have a fear of a jagged piece of sharp plastic coming loose in the event of an accident. It started to crack last year, in 2014 but was out of warranty. I do not feel this is a warranty issue, but instead feel it is a design flaw that really should be fixed for myself and the thousands of other people having the same issue. Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue.
Dashboard cracked approximately 2" from airbag to front windshield vent causing dash to sink resulting in safety issue. Upon further investigation both online and within the fleet of the department of homeland security for which I am charged with maintaining vehicles, I noticed the same issue is epidemic exactly the same location fleet wide. Gm charging $300 to repair for their own manufacturing defect.
Dashboard cracking in mutiple places and around air bag as well.
Dash is cracked on all 3 gm vehicles we own. 2 denali yukon xl's and 2011 cheve Avalanche.
Dash has started cracking everywhere. Around the passenger airbag there are cracks in the hard plastic dash, afraid if the airbag were to deploy that it would send small pieces of cracked hard plastic as projectiles. Dash is also cracked around in dash speaker, and behind instrument panel.
Avalanche recall. Developed dashboard cracks which is a major safety concern for me.
Dash has several large cracks and it keeps getting worse with time.
I have a crack on the passenger side dash airbag and the above my steering. I have taken all precaution to protect the dash by installing sun shield when parked outside. I purchased this vehicle new in October 2011 brand new. The fear that the crack dash could possibly fly up and slice or poke out an eye worries me from day to day. Please see the pictures attached.
There a deep gash/crack in the dashboard onthe passenger side that starts at the upper left corner of passenger airbag! very concerned after I googled this problem and can see that there are instances of this on gm vehicles 'all over the internet and the complaints date back to 2006. Also noting that most experience this problem about 24-48 months after new vehicle ownership, this is clearly a manufacturer problem and a safety problem! #1 if the airbag deploys either from necessity or randomly due to the structure of the dashboard being compromised, the dashboard could break apart into small sharp pieces that could be like "shrapnel" and cause severe injury or worse! #2 since the structure is compromised, what is the written documentation that there are no safety factors that need to be addressed if the airbag does randomly deploy while driving?! in this instance, it could also result in injury or death should a driver be startled at the unwarranted deployment of the airbag and swerve the vehicle or worse, my dealership, kuni of sacramento was only willing to repair if I paid a portion of the cost, and gm paid a portion. This is clearly a manufacturer problem; therefore, why should I pay any portion of the repair cost? I also noticed that most that paid for their repairs had recurrence of the same problem within 24 months or less!!!! #1 a consumer should not have to pay repairs for manufacturer problems and, #2 if the dealership and or gm is unwilling to provide this "at no cost to consumer service " and they state the vehicle is safe, then a written guarantee that this airbag will not deploy randomly while driving the vehicle, then a wriiten statement must be provided to all of us as consumers of gm products by general motors, inc!.
I had a crack that I noticed on the driver side on the dash. A few months later I noticed another one on the passenger side on the dash by the airbag. I have been on different customer forums and youtube videos and have found that this is a major problem. This is a manufacturer defect and has cause me to reconsider if I want to purchase another gm vehicle. I have a family and fear that the passenger side airbag may deploy and cause harm to anyone that may be on the passenger side which could lead to legal actions in case of an injury. I'm sure there will be enough owners with the same problem that will come forward. I hope that something can be done to help loyal paying customers like myself, without us having to pay any labor costs. I will start considering exposing this to the news station if nothing is done.
