I had an auto accident that totaled my vehicle (2013 chevy Avalanche). It was t-boned by the other vehicle with significant damage from the front quarter panel to the rear quarter panel. All on the driver's side. None of the airbags deployed in my vehicle. The other vehicle that hit me had all of the air bags deployed. I had my passenger airbag replaced, based on a manufacturers recall, this past summer 09/26/2025 at a certified chevy dealer. At that time, they said everything was replaced that needed to be and confirmed that everything was working. Because none of the airbags deployed in my vehicle, I sustained minor injuries, I. E. Cuts, bruises, etc. And my passenger sustained minor injuries as well, I. E. Bruises and neck pain. At the time of the accident, there were no warning lights or messages related to air bags. All manufacturers recalls were already applied to the vehicle and the airbags were supposedly in good condition only months before the accident (I. E. 09/26/2025).
Instrument panel (dashboard) cracked at airbag. Upon deployment shrapnel from dash panel could enter passenger compartment causing injury.
In December of 2020 we took our vehicle cannon dealership, the 2013 Avalanche had a recall to repair a part for the takata air bag,on January 17,2022 we had and accident, some one pulling a cow hauling trailer pull out in front of us and we hit into the cow trailer, and the air bags didn't deploy. We got injured, and we are still under the doctor,we had $9000 worth of damage, would have been worse if my husband hadn't hit brakes and we were sliding all across the highway we just couldn't avoid hitting the cow hauling trailer thanks barbara hill.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 21v054000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The vehicle was not taken to a local dealer. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact that there was no expected time frame for parts availability. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I received a letter back in Feb of 2021 advising us about the passenger airbag recall. I was to wait until parts come in from gm. After months of waiting, and confirmation of others that already got the repair done, I went ahead and scheduled the recall replacement with gm themselves, which in turn set it up with ron norris GMC in town. Even though I set this up a couple weeks ago and have received text and email confirmations reminding me of the appointment, I just received a call from ron norris, I was on the way to their dealership to have this recall taken care, telling me gm does not have the part for my truck and did not give me any more information about it. This is a serious issue and I have given them plenty of time to have it replaced. You ordered them to do this and after months they still do not have parts, they are dragging their feet on something that could kill the passenger of my vehicle. Could you please push them to get the part as I do not feel safe having a passenger ride in my truck now. If something happens I will hold you and gm responsible for the delays.

Dashboard cracked in 4 places 2 around airbag and 2 in center.
The dash is cracked at multiple places including up to the airbag. I was told by the people who repairs windshield that this is a know problem for Avalanche, silverado suburban. This is clearly a manufacturer defect and should be a recall they are quoting me a $1497 repair fee to replace the dash at the dealer. I contacted Chevrolet for assistance. They offered a $130 good will. . . .
My dash board has cracks and I am concerned that should the air bag go off in an accident the cracked dash may cause injury beyond normal. It has been noted that there are numerous complaints on the internet about this issue. I call to complain on the official gm hotline and was dismissed by the interviewer.
I'm not exactly sure when it started, but it was fine this summer (I estimated 11/10/18 below). The dashboard has cracked in two spots - drivers side near instrument panel hump, and passenger side near airbag. The cracks are continuing to get larger and the dashboard has stated to vibrate and rattle. I am concerned about a safety hazard in an accident.
There is crack from the edge of the airbag across the dash to the defroster. I've researched this and discovered it could potentially send shrapnel if the airbags are deployed. I've contacted my dealership and they said it is not a covered part under the extended warranty. I've also contacted Chevrolet directly to see if they would fix this issue. I just heard back from them and they said they will not rectify the issue. I didn't witness the crack happening so I couldn't elaborate on whether the vehicle was in motion or just parked.
Cracked dash passenger side by air bag. Also drivers side cracked dash above instrument panel. This vehicle has been garage kept most of the time. This cracked dash may not let air bags deploy properly and prone to pieces of dash flying as potential lethal weapons as sharp pieces could cause puncture wounds, eyes blinded, cartoid artery hit etc. First noticed after vehicle had just been setting the first crack started. Drivers side came next , and it is extremely cracked. Vibrates and makes obnoxious noise. It is distracting to driver.
At +/-83000 miles the dash developed a crack leading into the passenger air bag housing. It also is broken and, when driving, loosely vibrating between the instrument panel and the passenger air bag housing. Given the dangers associated with air bags, this is a clear and present danger to anyone in the vehicle.
. Want my airbags to work if I need them. Recovered a letter in mail today 10/31/2017.
Garage kept 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche that developed cracked dashboard in 3 locations including the passenger airbag area. Garage kept 37k mile vehicle.
I received a notice in the mail about a possible recall of the takata airbags.
Passenger side of dash has cracks adjacent to and connected to passenger dash air bag compartment.
My daughter owns this vehicle and tried many times to get her dashboard repaired as a warranty issue with no luck. Everyone told her it was not their problem and there was no recall issued for this. I was driving her truck today and noticed there are now 5 cracks in the dashboard. The 1st and 2nd crack happened about 2017 while parking out of the sun, in a parking garage. The dash rattles constantly and at 1 location the dash is almost cracked in half. Speaking with several other owners they all say the same. There appears to be no recall and and none of the dealerships say it's not there problem. There is no recall. We live in south louisiana and my main concern is safety of my daughter and her passengers. Is there a recall? was there a recall that we were not notified? and will there be a recall? also what happens, god forbid, she is driving down the road, hits a bump in the road, and her airbags deploy? and this causes her to hit someone, causes harm to herself or someone else or possibly kills someone? this concerns me more than I can communicate to you. One thing I failed to mention, every dealership did offer to repair or replace the dash, at our cost of course. Please let me know what my next step should be. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you with some sort of solution. Lynne leblanc.
The dash cracked overnight. There are now two big cracks in the dash of the vehicle, one on passenger side just above the airbag and another on the driver side, just to left of center above the main gauge cluster. I have read online that this is a known issue by general motors for the 2013 Avalanche, as well as other models from that year and the few years previous. This vehicle is kept in the garage, has never been off road or been wrecked in any way. The dash itself is only wiped down with a damp cloth when truck is washed, and never has chemicals used on it. When the truck is not in the garage, a sun visor shield is placed in the front window at all times. This is a big safety issue, due to the fact that is compromises the integrity of the air bag and also can allow for flying debris in the case of an accident.
The dash cracked near the passenger airbag. The vehicle was stationary at the time of the crack.
My 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche has developed a crack in the dashboard on the passenger side where the dash surrounds the airbag cover. This also happened to my previous 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche in the same exact area (but in two places instead of just one). This appears to be an issue with many of the 2007-2013 gm vehicles that have a similar dashboard as evident by the hundreds of forum posts regarding this defect. A google search for "gm cracked dash" will confirm this. The cracked area in the dash could become a safety hazard and potentially lead to injury due to the possibility of plastic shards becoming projectiles during airbag deployment. Failure of the airbag during deployment also seems to be a possibility if the airbag were to be punctured by the sharp edges of the cracked plastic. Gm has not issued a voluntary recall and based on many of the forum posts, the dealerships are not willing to replace the faulty dashboards at their expense, even though there is evidence that design changes have been made by gm to newer replacement parts that would help alleviate or eliminate the cracking problem. Since this defect is a costly repair to the vehicle owner and, more importantly, since it is potentially a safety hazard that could result in severe injury, I am hopeful that something can be done to urge gm to replace the dashboards of affected vehicles at their expense. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Rubbing sound when turning the steering wheel, fixed when car was under warranty, was told it was the air bag. Rubbing sound has returned. Also there are several cracks in the dashboard, which could be hazardous if the airbags were to deploy during a front end collision.
